I think women are entirely capable of objectifying and belittling men as aggressively as the other way round. The whole sexualisation of public life - both genders - is the issue, isn't it? This idea that everyone is always 'up for it' and if you're not then you must be a freak. There are very few 'celebrities' who you won't see in a publicity photo looking coyly over their shoulder in some half (or completely) naked picture. If you're not 'hot' then you're nothing. I have no issue with men or women expressing their sexuality. I just find the monotony of the imagery disturbing because it becomes so banal and 'normal'. This is where the education of boys becomes the issue - understanding that a picture isn't truth, let alone pornography. Boys who aren't comfortable with that imagery are still being pressured into acting it out by peer pressure and a feeling of being not normal. Girls are pressured into having sex on a first date because everyone does and if you don't then some pretty nasty labels are applied to you. Sex everywhere, all the time. I'm not surprised boys are confused by it.

@raisingirl exactly why parenting needs to be taken out of the hands of the media and Internet/ social media.  Its distorting perspectives and reality.

So, are the women supposed to regard these incidents as ‘compliments’ or dismiss them as a sort of ‘male banter’ …. ? Are the women who have complained about these attacks ‘making a fuss’ ? Does any member of parliament think that if these things happened to their mother, sister, wife or daughter, they’d tell them not to make a fuss because ‘some men are like that …it’s in their nature’ … you have to learn to cope because it’s a female’s responsibility to avoid such situations? Or are these incidents out and out serious sexual assaults? If they are why is it that we only hear about then when the same perpetrator has done it six times in rapid succession? Is once or twice ‘fairly normal’ then, and it’s only when there are six such attacks in rapid succession that the police concede there’s a serious problem?

Because their level of behaviour / intelligence is such, that they could never get to relate with a girl any other way.

I suppose there's no point in asking the mods to split this into a separate thread? I'm not criticising the intention here but it's kinda hard to moan about banal stuff when the world is being put to rights without looking dismissive of the topic.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I agree with Dove, until these matters are taken seriously and punished appropriately they will continue to occur. Men need to realise what the rules are these days and abide by them.
