It sounds as if they are at best incompetent. Whether they deliberately set out to rip people off, or are running their business at very low cost (eg no phone contact, no one answering emails pr online chat) and don't care about it is anybody's guess.

There have been lots of complaints about them here on the forum over the years

    Caveat emptor.

Back in the heady days of the dot-com boom, all were advised to ensure that websites had a physical address and, at the very, very least a telephone number. That was an absolute bare minimum to establish trustworthiness. I don't think that's changed. If a website isn't willing to offer out those details, forget it.

So far from a scam, however. This is simply a shoddily run company. There are thousands, and thousands, of such companies.

Amen. Always look for the 'Contact us" and "About us" pages if the company is new to you. A phone number (preferably a landline), email and company registration number is the minimum. The company background / history in "about us" is often revealing. Check for guarantees, 30 or 60 day return period, complaints procedures.

I don't suppose there is much on Garden Express that isn't available from many other companies that have proved themselves to be reliable over the years, with decent customer services.
  • Oh well at least he hasn't been back to offer you the f word 🤣 let's put this thread to bed.

Is this one a repeat offender, or did I miss something in the thread?

I'd agree - if there are warning signs [no complaint line is a real red flag!] then it's a case of buyer beware. Highly risky to use any company of this kind, instead of reliable nurseries or retail outlets.
