There is an address and phone number here but as the Gardening Express website clearly says that to keep costs down they do not have a telephone complaints service I doubt it’ll get you very far.

Alternatively you might take your complaint through Resolver.co.uk who may have more leverage than you acting as an individual.

In your shoes I would rein in the use of the word scam which indicates the organisation is deliberately trying to con you. Incompetency does not mean it is a scam.

So sorry you’ve been unlucky. If you paid by credit card the company may be able to find you a number ….do you think ?

I don't think that's wholly fair. We live in a country where we expect to hand over our money and get something in return. It's disgraceful that these companies make it so difficult to get in touch and it's not just bargain suppliers, either. That joyous line, "We are experiencing a high volume of calls just now..." Even though it is the crack of dawn, lunch time, bedtime, ANYtime. They don't head their ads with a warning - 'Abandon hope, all ye who enter here' but they should be obliged to do so.
I've spent 3 hours on the phone today.
3 different departments within DWP, they don't speak to each other so I'm left on hold for over half an hour each time before they even speak to me, then tell me to call someone else.
Who'd have thought that Care Allowance, isn't the same as Carer Allowance? It'd have been too difficult to give those different Allowances completely different names, OBVIOUSLY

What is Care Allowance?  I've heard of Carers Allowance but not t'other one.  I agree it's unhelpful at best to have two benefits with such similar names.
Care allowance is part of Universal Credit , totally seperate from Carers allowance

Thanks Hostafan.  UC came in fully after I left.

I sympathize Hosta, similar situation early this year with disabled son, woman from the DWP "thought" I would know she was working from home!! Not ordered from Gardening Express lately, but so many companies and our bank, although nearest branch is open are still working from home

I'd agree with @BenCotto. It  [Gardening Express] has always had a bad reputation, but using the word scam is a bit much.

Resolver is a very useful solution in most cases.  :)

I had a similar experience when I bought plants from The Telegraph website many years ago. Some of the items I ordered were missing and I got no response from The Telegraph.
I paid by Barclaycard and informed them - they refunded the whole amount within a couple of days as @bcpathome mentioned above.

I wonder why 'scam' is too much? Do we consider that the company intends, genuinely,  to give a good deal, but fails; that they are careless of the quality of their service or that they actually hope to get away with charging for goods they do not supply? It does seem to me that good communication is the badge of good intention. Is that expecting too much?

This this is the Cambridge Dictionary’s definition of scam

an illegal plan for making moneyespeciallyone that involves tricking people:”

Gardening Express might be incompetent but it is quite a leap to say their actions are illegal and deceitful.

Understood, @BenCotto. So do they 'trick' people by pretending they will deliver the goods or do they mean to deliver? I don't know the answer to this question.

It may not be technically illegal, but it certainly sounds scammy to me...

The latest Trust Pilot review from an hour ago:

"I paid for an Acer and a Foxglove which were both reported as in stock. Two weeks later I got an email stating there was a delay and I should wait a further two weeks. The acer arrived in very poor health, not at all like the customer photos on their website, the Foxglove still hasn't arrived. Unable to contact them to complain, no email or telephone customer service. Cannot log into my account as it keeps saying password not recognised. have tried the password reset option countless times but never received a link and have double checked my junk folder too. Very dissappointed. I think this company is totally disreputable and I recommend everyone to stay clear. I wish I had checked reviews before making my purchase."

They have an overall rating of 2.8. They must know their own track record yet continue to falsely represent their products and take people's money, sending out very poor specimens, or in some cases, none at all. Blaming the customer for not doing proper research before hand is just victim blaming. The blame is on the company for falsely representing their stock and failing to properly deliver on their orders.
