Good morning Ruby, SGL and Hazel. Ruby, I hope that the pain your OH is experiencing eases soon. At least he was made aware that this might happen so he won't have been worrying about it. SGL, I hope that you are successful in finding something for Poppet 2's birthday. Everything seems to be technology driven these days - even for the smallest people. Hazel, good to hear that the new mattress is an improvement on the last one and, as you say, once you get used to it, it proves to be more comfortable.

Morning all. Up early this morning as I realised at 6.45am that I'd left the new drip line on all night - 🤬 - that won't do our water bill any good will it? drat and double drat.

OH arrived home at about 8pm last night. He was slightly shaken by his experience. He has been flying for 40 years - for the last 30 years as a commercial pilot. As part of their initial and ongoing training they practice forced landings, emergency procedures and diversions.

He's had a few incidents through his flying career that have warranted a diversion but this was the first time he's had to make a Mayday call for real. A failing engine on a single engine aircraft is not a good thing. If it fails the plane basically becomes a glider with limited capabilities. It was fortunate that he was close to a farmer's private airstrip when it happened.

He's already spoken to the Air Accident Investigators who have to be notified of major incidents and he's now writing up reports etc.

Rubee - I do hope your OH's pain starts to subside soon. I cannot think of anything more draining than being in constant pain.

Hazel - took me about 10 days to get used to sleeping on our mattress when we first got it but it is now the most comfortable bed in the world🙂

Chive - hope your mum's doing ok (you too!)🙂

Morning T'Bird. Phew that is such a heart stopping experience for your OH. I'm so glad that it ended happily but I can understand the scare he must have had.
Not good leaving the drip line on but the new hedge plants will have been very happy indeed.

  • LB, Lily and Hazel I went back to bed at 6am and slept for 4 hours.  Hazel I’m glad your new mattress is better than the old, it needs wearing in a bit.  LB I’m loving the Snoopy exercises.  I’ve lifted a few eyebrows🙂 instead.  Lily I hope you enjoying shopping for poppet 2s birthday.  I’m sure it will be a good surprise.  Visited my rellies this morning and put the world to rights.  Chive and Debs thinking of you both.  Lily I hope oh is feeling a little better now.
  • Topbird that does sound very scary for you and oh and the student  Thank goodness your oh found somewhere safe to land.

    Hello all.

Your OH must have been relieved when he saw the farmer's private landing strip, @Topbird. Thank goodness he landed safely.

I had meant to do gardening this morning but the tree man came, then phone calls, washing to hang out - don't seem to have done anything much yet.

I have a foam Bultex mattress in France, very comfy, allows for arthritic hips and restless partner.

    Afternoon all.

Chive, I hope that your mum is much better now. I wish her a quick and well recovery.

Rosie, nice to hear that your OH is better. It was a huge amount of injections.

LB, I sow my bonsai seeds last week and placed them on windowsill. Day after, I found them all on the ground mixed up. Major suspects are of course my cats. Didn't know that few days ago was a International cats day. Well, they left me a proper message.

Someone wrote that it was chilly up there. I would give you everything what you want just for a that feeling. Here is scorching hot and it will be seven or eight days more. Hot and humid. I was yesterday at cottage and pull up some second early potatoes just to check how they grow. I'm quite happy what I found. After hot and dry June and July I didn't expect much.
My friends from Austria left two days ago and they also occupied my time. I'll try to rest a bit this afternoon and maybe later I put some rosemary and lavender cuttings to root them.

Afties all. I have had a lovely time with my Bestie today and we both had a really nice surprise as another ex member of my science department joined us out of the blue. It was so nice to see him and the weather was kind to us as we were in the garden when he arrived. Needless to say we were all reminiscing like mad and laughing about all the things we used to get up to. He has had a health scare recently and has to deal with cardiac arrhythmia but as Thursdays are quiet days for him (he's a gym and golf person) he will probably join us more often now.
Ante, what mischievous cats you have! Your vegetables - as ever - look absolutely delicious and those potatoes look excellent considering the heat you have had. Love the sunflower! Now is a good time to take rosemary and lavender cuttings - Monty was doing some on GW.

Evening LB. I'm so glad that you had a nice time with Bestie. I didn't have much time so I missed last three episodes of GW. I'll watch them as soon as possible.

It's quarter past seven and still 36℃. 🥵
