Punkdoc, I’m sorry things are so stressful. I hope Moria can rise above Ā it. Ā  It’s always hard with family matters.Ā

I hate seeing and hearing what is happening in Afghanistan. I just wish people could live with each other and let them be their own selves. Ā It almost always comes down to religion! Ā Don't get me started on my hobby house! Ā  Ā Enough.

I hope things settle down for you both.Ā

Realistically I needed to find another job first, before walking out. This was normal in the 70s. Even my last nursing post which I left just 5 years ago,my boss, made sexual remarks, one time he was looking at a list of courses coming up,which were sent through. He said he thought he'd do a course on woman's sexual organs. I reported him lots of times, there was no back up,no bullying help. I went through the sisters, then to the ward manager. Her exact words were " Oh. tell him to f**k off and say it came from me" I did finally explode one day. He said I couldn't take a joke after a sexual remark, that's what the blokes in the drawing office said to me.after that he made my life hell. No one would speak to him,he played the racist card,he'd been suspended many times, and always got away with it

I worked in a racing motor garage as a rather gorgeous teenager in the late 60s … believe me … there are ways of making it obvious that you will not be treated badly. I was the only female there and I was 17. I didn’t need a line manager to do the job for me. Seeing their precious Pirelli calendar torn up in the bin was just a start Ā šŸ‘Ā

January 1977 I started a new computer programming job in a company of 50 of whom there were 7 women.Ā  Every week there would be a notice up on the coffee machine for the men to vote which of the women was best turned out and I don't mean fashion.Ā  Ā I had waist length blonde hair, double Ds, curvy hips and a tiny waist and a brain so wasn't too keen on this.

Eventually I got together with two other women - senior programmer and a senior analyst - and we took to going round the office every Monday lifting the back vents on male suit jackets and going Nah, Hmm, Maybe or OK.Ā  When asked we said we were evaluating bums.

The list disappeared off the coffee machine.

OH and I have had a day off house and garden and been to explore the southern Vendée coast below La Tranche which is just too very busy in summer.   L'Aiguillon and La Faute are far calmer, easier to park in, have a relaxed atmosphere and lots of chalets selling freshly harvested mussels and oysters and seafood.   Quieter beaches and dog friendly too and we've found a few restaurants to explore.   Good day out.

Now to go and see what those chooks have been up to.

Hope you have a good time too @Busy-Lizzie.Ā  Ā Just think @Hostafan1.Ā  You may never see that BIL and SIL darken your door again!

Sympathies for Moira @punkdoc .Ā  Possum often tells me she's glad she's an only child.Ā

Met my second husband in a breakdown garage.what would you have done in my last job Dove, speaking to him telling him I didn't find it acceptable didn't work,he ended up making me ill

Apparently it was obvious with everything else I had,a brain wasn't included

The point is that whilst they may not see past the rest to recognise your brain, you can turn it to your advantage.Ā  Ā Fortunately, most of the chaps in that office had brains and wives or girlfriends and saw the error of their ways.Ā  Ā Unfortunately, not a tactic I could use when out on client sites.

I would have walked out. I’d rather be poor than allow someone to make me ill … and yes, I do know what it’s like to be very poor.Ā
