I did gardening today, watched an Escape to the Country and another episode of Killing Eve.
There is a farmer combining in the field behind the house, quite noisy. Hope he stops soon as the cockerel will crow in the early morning, drat it. I chased him across the lawn this morning and he flew over the fence.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ what a beautiful morning … blue sky, sunshine and the twittering of goldfinches … even now, when most of the other birds are quiet, the goldfinches carry on …
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
We had a lovely visit to MIL … OHs sisters popped in (well, they stood in the garden on the patio, we stayed in the garden room with the French doors open) and OH’s old friend came around for the evening and we sat out in the garden watching shooting stars (I think I may have told you that 😏)
OH cut the hedge and the lawn and gave the shed its first coat of paint. MIL has planted a climbing rose at one end of the shed … she doesn’t know what sort (she’s not a gardener). I’ve tidied up around it, cleared the grass away from it, and next visit we’ll mulch it and put up a good trellis. Fortunately, being on the edge of an ancient fen, the soil is wonderful … everything grows without much care at all … everyone’s gardens around there are wonderful (not far from Barnsdale).

A quieter day yesterday, thank goodness, it's a Bank Holiday weekend here and a lot of family events organised I think. Made the most of the opportunity to not be needed in the kitchen and got all the basement area sorted out, new shelves up and two new freezers that were delivered on Friday all stocked in an orderly fashion (with labels), hopefully save a lot of time searching for things. So lucky that our 'quiet' day came just at that moment. I think things should settle down a bit now too, 15th July to 15th August is the key holiday period here, although with he lifting of travel restrictions (and sunshine) we might get an influx of British visitors, so far we have only had French and Dutch and our usual locals.
I am supposed to be just working until 4pm today and am hoping to spend the evening in the garden just sorting out my 3 main flowerbeds. Fingers crossed.
Happy Sunday everyone, special hugs to @Hostafan1 and hubby, trying times and yet you seem to be coping and bearing it all so well.

Good morning @Dovefromabove, glad you had a nice time with MIL and family 😀 @D0rdogne_Damsel sound like you made the most of your less busy day! I intend to do the same today, less jobs in my to do list than normal Sundays, still busy but less so!!
Step songs are arriving for jerk chicken and rice and peas later so 2 large chickens to cut and marinade and gungo peas to soak then I can go on the garden for an hour or so before the next stage in cooking! The sun is shining 😎 and the brown bin is empty.... for now!!
@Obelixx, the book has arrived and I've made a start on it already! 😀
I take it those stepsons have hearty appetites @WonkyWomble! There are gungo peas in our chicken feed mix but the chooks chuck them out all over their shed floor and even the wood pigeons that sneak in there don't eat them. Enjoy the book. Hope it helps.
Bad night last night so was up and about at 3:30 admiring the stars and a bit of Milky Way which is visible here when there's no moon. Having a quiet morning catching up on GW but will then go and do some planting. It's a lot cooler today and there's a nice breeze. Too scorchio yesterday.
Glad things are going well @D0rdogne_Damsel. Is Charlie still growing veggies and salads?
No coq au vin then @Busy-Lizzie? Hope you can get your garden sorted before you have to leave. It's quiet here now as wheat and hay have been harvested and the corn and sunflowers aren't ready yet. Bit noisy in Luc's barns tho as it's a major month for calving and the cows have a lot to say.

cool and overcast here today - good gardening weather. War, fire, flood and pestilence in the news. OH is pouring concrete, I'll probably do some more weeding. Both hiding in our bubble
Gardening on the edge of Exmoor, in Devon
“It's still magic even if you know how it's done.”
Busy morning - hot dry wind so mattresses out in the sun, airing. Bed base vacuumed and washed and little crevices attacked with a toothbrush!! (We have an electric bed so the ends go up and down for reading and keeping feet up.)
No gardening today for me except watering. Everything is more or less prepared for winter consumption. The black radish and white radish (Chandelle de Glace) are already up and the beetroot (Chioggia and Chinese Red Melon) are peeping out their arms. Fennel and carrot seem to take a while longer and I have given up on parsnip seeds.
It's going to be a quiet hot day so "Virgin River" (Netflix) is up on the cards, a good book and maybe a cryptic crossword or two.
@Obelixx, oldest stepson takes after his father, 6 foot 7 and still growing.... he loves my cooking bless him and since his Mum passed away and he's looking after his little brother, he is doing so well that I like to make extra for him to take back so he can have a break from the pressure on him, if only they returned the containers!!! Now joining you catching up on GW 😁 Then off to join @tui34 in watering the garden, things are looking floppy! @raisingirl, being a County girl that lives in the middle of a large town I have to admit to making my own bubble on purpose with a tall gate, and it's the only thing that keeps me going! Nothing wrong with bubbles! 😁
