Thanks @Sheps. Shows how much of a novice I am. I'd never heard of the Raynox adapter until now but having read-up on it maybe I'll get one. Need to take that lens back first though - it fogged up again

As an example and although not the best image, it shows how close the Raynox will focus.
Below is the desiccated Stamen filaments of a Rozanne which are very small, looking at the above images you can just about see the pollen grains, with the Raynox things become much clearer, but you are working with 1mm / 2mm of DOF which can be very tricky.
