Glad you enjoyed Crawdads @chicky - our book club did too. I'm on Shuggie Bain now - so still in dirt poor and parental neglect territory but the world the 'weans' have to negotiate here is very different. Glad you OH is so much nearer @Hostafan1. Sadly as those with loved ones with dementia know all too well, it is a long and painful goodbye. But I read a very uplifting comment - a man was asked why he still visited his wife when she had no idea any more who he was. He replied - no, but I know who she was. We found looking at photographs together helped with my MIH. Took our eldest granddaughter (who will be 16 in a couple of weeks) to one of the Thursday lunchtime concerts in the big church in town yesterday. This time it was 17 year old Pearll performing. Amazing talent - writes all her own songs, plays guitar and piano really well, lovely voice... She will go far we are sure. And nice to spend some time with R. Who now has a boyfriend! A very nice and polite young man (and also 16) according to all. I asked R. if he walks on the outside of the pavement when they walk along together - and he does! So I approve.
Obelixx, I’ve been flat out knitting the fingerless gloves for my friend’s coffee shop to sell. Funnily enough, just when I was saying to Hubby on the way to town this morning that I’m a bit over it, then one of the women who works there told me she is buying the business and will probably stop selling all the various craft stuff. 🙄. Hubby reckons I’m psychic. 😁😁. Rather relieved. I feel like getting back into my cross stitch patterns for a change. I need to get through lots of threads. Love your cosmos stories. I really miss having a pet, but I’ve decided that our circumstances are such that it’d be best to not go there again.
Sorry Hosta, I hit the post button instead of the return. I’d like to add my thoughts and wishes to all the lovely ones already sent to you. Our good wishes winging their way to you.
Morning all, cooler with a breeze this morning which is a great relief. Green Thumb man has just been and advised me what to do about the large fairy ring we have on our front lawn (lots of fork wriggling and washing up liquid). Doesn't cure it altogether but may keep it at bay. Off for a lovely pedicure in a minute which I'm so looking forward to. Sorry you had a bad night @Obelixx and your knee is hurting. Catch up later.
Cloudy here and quite cool. I've just put my fleece on and I'm wearing jeans instead of a summer dress.
Friends are coming to dinner on Sunday so I've been planning the menu. Trip to Morrisons soon. The village monthly market is tomorrow morning so I may buy some food there, but you never know in advance what they'll have.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hello again ... I'm back from the city centre ... think there may be a problem on the A47 /A11 roundabout ... huge tailback right into the city and big lorries taking detours past Notcutts and down Newmarket Road ... anyway ... as I thought, I need new specs ... reading and distance ... I've chosen some I'm very pleased with and the person dealing with me worked out various discounts etc and I'll have two new pairs for under £160 so that's not too bad at all ... all the measurements have been done and they will be delivered by post around 4th August ... if I'm not happy with the fit I can take them in to be adjusted, but all being well they'll be fine and not even another car park fee to pay. Now to grab some lunch and read around the threads ...
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
It has stayed cool so far - mid 20s - and we have proper clouds now. I've been out to try and weed the rose garden I watered last night but 40 minutes were not enough! It's like concrete. More tonight then.
Wen to t check the trees and shrubs we planted last autumn and some are clearly struggling so I've given them all a deep drink. I have weeds 1m50 high in the new oval bed I planted up in May and June so need to get in there and do some serious clearing out - after some rain. Picked some nasturtium and marigold flowers to add to freshly picked salad leaves to have with panzanilla for lunch. Yum-yum.
Had to be light as Friday is Fakeaway night and I'm doing duck with Chinese pancakes and home-made spiced plum sauce.
@Pat E Good timing indeed but given how popular your gloves and dolls are I suspect the new owner will have to have some ideas to make up for those lost sales and all the other crafters. Let's hope she doesn't import Chinese tat!
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Salad bar sounds good @Pat E and probably a better turnover/profit margin if she gets it right but what else does the shop sell that lends itself to salads?
