Morning folks Best wishes for today @steephill my condolences to Mrs Steephill
Morning @Hostafan1 I'm very glad it's your side of the country getting those temperatures, it's a bit cooler here thankfully but still hot! Did your daughter have a nice birthday?
Morning @Dovefromabove loved my day off yesterday, think I need more of them! Popped to Katie's garden to collect 3 free plants as part of their loyalty scheme. This were a chocolate cosmos and 2 bedding plants for the front and bought a couple of Salvias, I'll confess when I can have another look at the names as I've forgotten.
Morning @Nanny Beach and everyone else to come! Back to work today, more coffee needed!
It didn't rain, lovely day again. I didn't sleep well, was so tired last night, went to bed early then had hot flushes and couldn't sleep. Had hot flushes, but less often than before, since new doc made me come off HRT. Also had back ache, I twisted something when cleaning out the saucepan cupboard yesterday. Then the cockerel started shouting again at 4am.
I may try out the new pressure washer today.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hot here again and still at first but breezy again now. Slept OK given that they were harvesting wheat till 2am so lots of beeping from reversing machines. No critter prezzies from Minstrel till 8am but a very cuddly purry Cosmos at 6am so fairly civilised.
I take it they haven't caught that cockerel then @Busy-Lizzie. We have a 60€ voucher for Mr Bricolage says OH. Do I want any paint? Oh yes. Living room has needed doing since we moved in and I've finally decided I want restful colours on walls and sofas cos there's loads of light. Not till September tho. Far too hot now and next month.
Glad you enjoyed your day off @Wonky and yes, you should have one a week at least or you'll wear yourself out and be no good to anyone.
Condolence again @Steephill. I hope you and OH find some comfort in seeing old friends and rellies today.

As I am stuck in waiting for the man from Vaillant (boler is still under warranty) I thought I would give some more detail of our trip to Scotland I will try to put more on the garden visits thread but as I took my "proper camera" all the pictures will need resizing & I don't know how to do it in bulk.
Anyway we went to 6 gardens in total all very different. We went to Gordon Castle, this had an 8 acre walled garden which was derelict 4 years ago. Then to Airdlin Croft a private garden with a large collection of Hostas, and seed grown hardy plants. Next Day was Logie Steading and Cawdor Castle with 3 different gardens the oldest laid out in 1710. Last day was the Beechgrove garden, which is not open to the public. We were told by Head gardener Mairi, that the garden exists solely to make the programme. Carole Baxter (one of the lead presenters) is a Patron of Perennial & that is how we were able to visit. It was on a very anonymous site, if you didn't know it was there you wouldn't find. The programme has been going 43 years and the current site was an old tree nursery. Last stop was Dounside House which runs as a charitable trust, and is very active in education and community projects. Two themes emerged, one was how small all the teams are that look after these large gardens, the second was environmental concerns and sustainability. Apart from Beechgrove, and Airdlin Croft (which has limited opening under their equivalent of the NGS scheme) the other 4 gardens are all open to the public so if you are ever in that area they are well worth checking out. These pics are off the phone camera, just a taste.

Cawdor Castle
Sorry it's hard to find good pictures to sum up the gardens, as the preview images are so small
I've not done much again today apart from my usual walk to get the paper. OH is now unable (or unwilling!) to make it so it may be my job for the forseeable. I did wear a mask inside, as did others, as our local shop is very small. Some of the pigs in the wood I walk past seem to have disappeared and there's not much left for the others to forage. Very hot again, getting a bit bored of it now, there's only so much lazing around you can do. Condolences to Steephill and his family.
Thank you for all your kind thoughts, it turned out a bit more stressful than we hoped. OH's brother in law got pinged by the Covid app this morning so they were a very last minute no-show which was a bit tricky as they were supposed to be organising the funeral. Then we discovered that the live streaming system had failed much to the distress of various Italian relatives and old friends who couldn't attend. We are hoping that the service was recorded so that we can share that later but we won't find out until tomorrow.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
