  • I'm sad that Tom's gone, didn't want either to go. Thought it would be Tilly and Dan in the dance off.
I read this afternoon that there's been complaints about Tillys scores.

I didn't want either Tilly or Dan in the  dance off. For me the right two were in the dance off and the right couple went.

However, I didn't like Tilly's dance or the music although I thought she dealt with it very well.

Rose has been my favorite from the start.

I think that Tilly performed the dance really well and with great style and flair … whether we ‘like’ it isn’t the point.  It’s what professional dancers in musicals have to do … they don’t get the chance to dictate their choreography until they’re huge stars, and often not even then.

Dan has done really well and improved his performance hugely the second time around … but Rhys really rose to the occasion, took the judges’ points on board, particularly about the positioning of his feet, and kept his movements much more ‘compact’ … on top of which his dance had much more technical content.

The result was correct. As she has done in the past Shirley softened the blow for a popular contestant, while keeping the sense of competition alive.

  • I agree @Obelixx, I thought Rhys had taken the advice on board,he leaned into the Jive more and it definitely gave him the edge needed.

I didnt like Tillys dance or the "school uniform skirt" again a lack of material to move with the dance.

Amy seemed more gutted than Tom.

It's unlikely that there will ever be a situation where everybody agrees either with the judges scoring or with the person knocked out.  I did think Tom had one of the weaker performances but didn't see the dance off so can't comment on the basis of that.
The conspiracy theorists are going to have a field day with Tilly, Rose and John all continuing in the show - particularly Tilly who's performance level has varied so much.

    @KT53 , I agree with you
Also add into the equation that you like some dancers more than others

It's always been the same with Strictly, contestants with a big fanbase, those on a "journey", those with some dance experience even if not Latin or ballroom and those that we've never heard of. It's always been about more than "just" the dancing, especially as the years have gone by. Look at Chris Hollins and Ola Jordan, not the most obvious of winners.

I try to vote on a week by week basis but as the series progresses then various personalities appeal to me more than others for whatever reason, and it can make  my "judging" on the dancing alone very difficult.

Dan's obvious enjoyment of the Charleston was one of the reasons l think he went through, although l think his time is coming to an end.

John and Johannes l had high hopes for, but in the last couple of weeks Johannes seemed to be out dancing John. At the start l found it difficult sometimes to distinguish the celebrity from the professional ,but John did admit he was finding it hard to really let go. They must all be starting to get tired as well after 10 weeks.
With luck the AT will put them back on track.

As for Tilly, l must admit that Couples Choice is a concept l have struggled with. There are obviously various criteria that have to be met, and when l watched parts of it again on Sunday night she captured the spirit of "Matilda" and the musical itself, and had obviously been working extremely hard. The judges clearly thought it was perfect, but l couldn't tell you if it was or not. If it's judged against a performance of the show in the West End then Cynthia Erivo should know (l did have to Google her l admit 😊).

As for the dance off, personally l thought it was the correct decision (l know, l know). Rhys had clearly taken the judges advice on board. Halfway through Tom's dance my OH sent me a text saying that Tom looked as though he had terrible constipation and l'm afraid that did it for me.
I must admit that l felt that he and Amy were below the radar most of the time. Judging from her body language from the very start of the show, l think she knew they were in trouble right from the beginning.

Rose and Giovanni to win for me  :). I hope AJ makes the final as well.
  • I thought that Rhys definitely calmed his dance down in the dance off and it was much better, Tom looked to me to have improved too I couldn't choose between either of them. I think that Tom was happy to have reached musicals week and been able to dedicate his dance to his sister.

I would have 'saved' Tom in the dance-off, although I had originally voted for Rhys and agreed with the judges about Tom's dance. I thought he improved a lot in the DO, but it was very close so I'm not especially upset - his time would probably have been up next week if not this. I don't think Rhys will be in the final though.

  • Whoops!  My mistake ... I called Tom Dan in my post above ... that's what happens when I post before my second coffee .... to be clear, I was referring to Tom Fletcher
