Yes the gap is obscene ... but while there is a gap the power that accompanies the wealth increases exponentially ... not to see or not to care ... not to have the moral compass to understand that with that power comes responsibility ... I'll feel free to judge someone's character based on those factors.

Yes I spend money on luxuries that many others don't have ... but when I spend it I do try to make choices that will not impact too negatively on my fellow man ... I even try to spend it in a positive way if possible.  The freedom to make those choices is available to the obscenely wealthy too ...

As you and I both said, the gap is obscene ... I blame economists' obsession with percentages ... but that's another hobbyhorse of mine.

But it's relative. If I start with £1 and have a moral compass and give 10p to charity then what's the issue when I get to £200 and give £20 to charity or good works? So isn't the responsibility the same? Or should I say '...oh, I have a disposable income less than you..so you should bear the burden..'. Isn't it the joy of the TV campaigns to raise money born out of the fact that it's hundreds of thousands of 'small' people giving small amounts that raise vast amounts? I haven't a clue about that person's (he wot paid $20 million) moral compass - all I know is the headline today. Oddly, I just watched the Road to Rome and watched loads of people queuing to see a man who heads one of the richest organizations in the world and whose organization's ethos is to help - draw your own conclusions about wealth and moral compasses.

Hi folks, thought I'd stumbled onto the wrong thread for a moment.  I've been out and fed all the pots and veg this morning, removed a few weeds and staked a couple of plants.  It's glorious out there but I've come in to cool off for a bit before doing anything else.
    Have a good day everyone.

Sorry @Yviestevie .... we were rabbiting on a bit .........

Perhaps we should draw a line on this discussion ...  I'll end it by saying I'm with the late Jonathan Sacks when he said "...“We should challenge the relativism that tells us there is no right or wrong, when every instinct of our mind knows it is not so, and is a mere excuse to allow us to indulge in what we believe we can get away with. A world without values quickly becomes a world without value.”

    Right ............ lunch time ...

We're doing none of those. I'm playing on here but must get going again. OH is stacking books in boxes - by the way I lost the skiing kit battle - it's now all up in the loft! All my long dresses are laid out on top of the grandchildren's bunk beds, on top of all his suits and we're fast running out of room. Why have I got so many duvet and pillow sets????

And who's sitting at the Laptop catching up with Forkers?  :)
Grandsons are watching football. Daughter and her OH are in the pool. Too hot outside and I forgot my swimsuit. Daughter has an above ground pool.

Thank you @didyw for liking Daughter's garden.
