Our thought is that the word ‘selfish’ is more apt than gullible in this instance @Hostafan1 … after all, if you had $28,000,000 to spend on a vanity project why would you not want your name to go down in history as having paid for Covid vaccinations of millions of folk in the Third World rather than on what is no more than a polluting charabanc ride for billionaires? 🙄 Gullible implies they don’t understand the impact of their actions … I think that they do … and they don’t care. 😡

I'm not justifying it (I never understood why we have such wealth disparity), but isn't it all relative? Our spending patterns reflect what disposable income (wealth?) we have. If someone has a spare $20m then what should they spend it on? If they have a spare $1, what should they spend it on - and what is the line (I like my lines)? Why should someone who has more spare cash be more philanthropic?
Personally (and I know I bang on) I think the wealth disparity has to be addressed - as with AI, the problem become exacerbated. Who owns the profits of a company when the work is done by machines? Obviously not the workers - that's the point of automation isn't it - reducing the costs by reducing the people. It's the obscene wealth that's the problem - and in the future who will 'own' that wealth.
@steveTu ... I'm not saying they shouldn't spend it on whatever they like ... it's their choice, within the law. What I'm saying is that what they choose to do with their excess cash reflects on their character and shows them to the rest of the world as the type of people that they are ... they can either be so self-absorbed that they are totally unaware of how they are seen by others, or they are aware, and don't care.
When we watch the behaviour of others we should reflect on it and how it impacts the world, and make our choices accordingly about what we do with what power we have, whether it be where we spend our money or how we use our vote.

That then simply applies to everyone doesn't it? So if I have a spare £10 and spend it on beer rather than giving it to the homeless is that any better or worse? How much do people in this country spend on holidays? £43 billion in 2019 (UK £60 billion - https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/leisureandtourism/articles/traveltrends/2019). How many vaccines would that buy? So are those people uncaring or unthinking? The wealth just magnifies the problem that's all. Some people individually spend £500,000 on a car, some £30,000, some ....etc. Some people spend £n million on a house. Some spend £n thousand on a meal. Some spend £n million on art and collectables. Where's my ubiquitous line? What is 'right'?
Morning all, glorious start here, I know many disagree, but I think we should explore space and our solar system. This trip is purely a joyride though, if there was some science involved it could perhaps be justified.
