Sorry about the size of the photos folks ... not sure why they've turned out so huge ... I only did what I always do ... they're not usuall that huge ... hope it doesn't cause problems for folk with slow broadband ...Â
Ah, they’re only huge on the laptop ... they’re normal on my phone. Phew!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I've come in as it's too hot to do any more weeding. Unpacked a few more books, need a new bookcase. This is the bit that shows the bookcases that I've been painting. They were really cheap, MFI or similar when we bought our first house in 1973. Seemed a waste to throw them out and I don't think I can afford anything else now. While I'm in Norfolk the builders will be back to concrete the big barn/future car port floor.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I think those bookcases look absolutely fine @Busy-Lizzie ... painted the right sort of colour (as yours are) they melt into the background and are simply a repository for the books, which of course, are the stars of the show 😎Â

Those bookcases look fine to me @Busy-Lizzie.  Love the way they merge into the wall.
I forgot to mention earlier - re Oxford bags - that when Possum saw them she said she'd love a pair.  I was surprised as she normally favours skin tight jeans.  Luckily, I still have my pattern bought way back in 1988. In fact I've used it, but with an elasticated waist, to make her pyjama bottoms but don't tell her.
We have had another visitation of chooks in the kitchen and they did a tour of the dining room. One got stuck under a dresser thingy with glass doors in the dining room. Too heavy to lift but she was fine once we shooed out the rest cos Big Bess was "helping" and causing a fluster.  Beaded curtain going up once I've had my coffee and before I go off to plant and weed.
The Sempervivum 'New Rose' that I got and split (one became six) last November seems to be quite happy, d-fab. I haven't decided what to do with them yet so may need to put them in bigger pots as they try and multiply further
They are in a MPC and horticultural grit combo. Heavier on the grit as I recall.
Hello folks, that is good news about your brother Dove and I like your varied collection of succulents, I've just got the one mixed pot. I also like your reading corner and newly painted bookcases Busy-Lizzie, very calming. Your chooks are getting very enterprising Obelixx, best get the anti-chook/mozzie curtain up quick or they'll want to take over the house. At least you can enjoy your meal out tonight DD as you say, but hope your 2nd jab's not too long delayed. Talking about jabs, I had a steroid shoulder jab this morning and it really hurt, much to my surprise, hasn't before and I'm usually very relaxed with jabs. It's in my right shoulder so can't do much this afternoon, my hand also feels funny with the veins all standing out, not nice at all. Trying to type this with my left so quite laborious. It's quite cloudy and windy out so doesn't matter if I have a day off from gardening. Â
When I had the steroids in my spine for slipped discs I had to stay quiet for 3 hours on a day bed afterwards and then for 3 days at home @Lizzie27.  For the knee I just have to be careful for a few days so maybe that's what your shoulder needs. Some quiet time.
I have found the perfect distraction for keeping the chooks out of my wisteria bed - weeding the silk tree bed. They are all helping as it's normally very dry so lots of ants but there's also a great pile of chipped bark in the middle that I poured on ready to spread after some rain last autumn. Trouble is it then rained every day for ages once it finally started and then I got distracted by other things. Â
Head high in wild oats, sticky willie and some yellow flowered weed now. Lovely.  But my Mexican lily has survived winter despite all the cold and wet so that's really good and so has a Bumble salvia which I didn't expect.
Nothing new here. Cool cloudy morning and more forecast the same way. Not looking forward to a drive to Canberra on Wednesday for one of Hubby’s appointments. Our daughter is going to drive us around the city to save trying to find a parking spot.
