The place I use for car services told me a while ago, that sometimes even they are forced to buy special tools just to do a simple job. They think it's the manufacturers deliberately trying to make us use their franchised main service places.
But have you got a got a key thing for a Stromberg carburettor? I have. You never know when you might need it or where I can find it.
My dad worked his way through the Triumph back catalogue at one point so he's bound to have one I could borrow if I ever felt the need.
I had to buy a 38mm socket last week though. It cost me £20 for the socket and I'd binned the packaging before I realised I bought a 3/8" drive not a 1/2" so now I have to buy an adaptor just for that one socket. All to rotate the crank shaft on the camper van for two whole turns.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
I'm sure I would feel your pain if I knew what you were talking about doubts probably just as well I don't. I used to use the key to that I could adjust the carburettor so that I could actually drive the car after it had passed its MOT.
I clicked on a page number link on this thread and got a popup for an adclick website page start to come up. Shut it down before it did anything. I once had one of those and no matter how many times you backspace you never get out of the ad links. Backspace once and it goes forwards a few ad link pages. Ended up closing everything down to stop it. I thought I'd got one of those!!

Had "something," health related for some months, getting worse. I ring Surgery last week, they want photo, won't believe I can't do it on MY phone! Visit daughter she's a software expert, says she can't do it on my phone either. Does it on hers. Was told my GP was off the beginning of this week. He ring me yesterday left a message said make an appointment he needs to see it. I rang for 3 hours yesterday, permanently engaged. Finally got through today on the 6th attempt,14 into opening. Explained, receptionist says she's got no routine apps with him for a long time. Then she puts me on hold. Comes back says there are no routine apps, says she is looking at my notes. Can I ring tomorrow to arrange a PHONE consult. Told her that the DR left a message after seeing pictures, says he needs to see me. She says, Ah,but did you SPEAK" to him. Already told her,he left a message, says again ring tomorrow, because he's not in today. I say,can I see another GP she says "he's your GP and he's who you always see" well, that's not true. I frankly don't know what to do next!

Yeah I encountered this when checking the rear brake shoes on my sons Ford Fiesta many years ago. It turns out the hub nut was a one time nut and when removed had to be replaced so I went to the Ford dealer who charged me £20 for a nut. After reading the workshop manuel I found I then had to go and buy a torque wrench which would torque to some ridiculous poundage. I'm sure a mechanic would have just shoved the old nut back on and done it up as tight as he could, but If I'm doing a job I try to do it to manufactures specifications, but this makes it more expensive, but there's no messing with safety in my book.
