Wasn't sure whether to POST on RTBC, after yesterday's very unhelpful DR receptionist,(rude actually) after ringing 112 times, yes, that's not a misprint,! I turned on the charm, said,",ooh, did I get it wrong, wasn't THAT my phone appointment"! Different receptionist, days she will speak to GP,yes,he DOES want to see you, appointment this afternoon. I told the woman yesterday this, she was adamant,it was only going to be a phone appointment. Was still annoyed,/frustrated though, was going out with a friend into town and coffee at our nice sea front hotel, but I would have been lousy company,so ended up cancelling
When you do get to the face to face with your GP you really should let them know the problems you experienced with the first receptionist. If nobody tells them they are probably unaware that Attilla the Hen is running receptions.
We've had many face to face appointments with our GPs lately. It CAN be done safely. I'm sure, being curmudgeonly , that some are just using Covid as an excuse for everything. I had Talk Talk tell me they were short staffed as people were working from home.
" Don't you think Talk Talk could ensure they have a working phone, and phone line?"
Our son was registered at another surgery because they were better at seeing young children quickly being a larger practise with nurse practitioners who of needed could go and get a GP to see the patient. However we had the receptionist who would refuse to arrange an appointment if we insisted that we wouldn't tell her the medical problem we needed the doctor for. I mean flat out refused.
Our solution was to hang up and keep trying until one of the other receptionists answered. It wasn't necessary for her to know as the other receptionists always said "that's OK" when we said we'd prefer to tell the gp personally.
The cover receptionist at our gp tried it with me. I went beyond curmudgeonly to cantankerous with her and got my gp appointment without giving her the information she claimed to need.
The only reason they do that is to give you a later appointment if they think it's unimportant or to give the gp a heads up so they can Google patients.co.uk website for the most likely diagnosis. Either way I don't want to make it easy for them.
I didn't get chance to mention my problems with getting an appointment, ring bell some one unlocked disappeared,Dr very quick, sending review to consultant. I know what DRs consultants are like (40 years nursing) tried complaining about Office staff at my last surgery, they close ranks. Our young GP just said "oh, yeah I know what she's like" that was it
I was talking to somebody today who's wife has had serious medical problems for years. At her PIP assessment she was given 0 points and consequently they also lost Income Support and Carers Allowance. The appeal process took 2 years but when they walked into the tribunal the chairman told them immediately that the ruling was in their favour and his wife awarded 25 points. PIP and Carers Allowance were reinstated immediately and fully backdated. So far Income Support is refusing to do anything because they (IS) claim they came off voluntarily. The appeal process on that is just starting!
It doesn't make any difference what shade of government is in power @Hostafan1
Most of the staff at DWP and similar government areas are overworked underpaid and under qualified, have lousy managers and horrendous working environments. Ever heard the expression "pay peanuts, get monkeys"?

Got to love the caring, compassionate tory government eh?
