Forgive me if these have been mentioned... two things.
When a commentator of a sports match will shout an ear splitting "Unbelievable!" to something just witnessed. It can't be unbelievable if it's happened.
Second of all, when someone begins a sentence with
    "Look," or
"Listen, "       they sound a bit rude, to me.

Ah Rubytoo, definitely. Maybe it is due to upbringing. My late mother vacuumed eventually, and she had a Hoover, noisy smelly thing like bagpipes. Before that she swept the floors. She did NOT approve of swearing! Told me swearing shows you have a poor command of the English language. I only ever heard her swear once... nothing too terrible, I was an adult, she burnt her hand on the oven, said "bugger", clamped her hand over her mouth and widened her eyes. Same here,in my late 20s, my oldest daughter threw a cushion, the corner hit me in the eye,it really hurt, I swore, she was horrified. They did not approve of shortening Christian names either, and that has stuck with me.
  • @Nanny Beach    Not shortening names, that I Know about!  I dislike my name and the way my parents pronounced it. My aunt offered a shortened version, preferred by me but rejected by my parents.  Much happier in my working life when I was just Mrs B :)
