Thanks Lyn. Think we might need a degrees of vomity smiley this one is a gentle, tolerating one. Sometimes we need a full blown far reaching one. Do you have any more in your repertoire please?
Decimated for annihilated. Conshoomers (can hardly bear to write that!) In-teg-gral - even on the BBC! Fighter jets - what an utterly ridiculous combination! All fighter aircraft have been "jet" powered for about 60 years and in most circumstances the aircraft referred to are multi role or not fighters at all. English people who quote Americanism such as "Oh, that's bit left field isn't it?" Presumably to seem trendy.
Train station. I'm always tempted to do an impression of the Lady Bracknell sound alike who was interviewed for Woman's Hour many moons ago - she was a great friend of "West with the Night" Beryl Markham - "she grew up in Kenya, her father was a Trainer you know..." At this point she was interrupted by her young interviewer "oh, he trained racehorses..?" WELL OF COURSE MY DEAR -WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE? I'm so glad I caught that broadcast and mourn that old girl's passing - the Empire we've lost.
The fashion for describing the size of something in relation to a Football Pitch If you are a footie fan, you can probably work it out ( at last to within a yard or 2 ) but to me, it means nothing. It also pays to take a bit of care - bad ( or lack of ) editing leads us to believe that 2 barges currently in the Bristol Channel ( Hinkley C ) were said to be the size of a Football.
