I thought about that one when I saw it. I suppose uninvited means never having been  invited whereas disinvited means the invitation had been withdrawn.
It still grates though. Not a word I'd choose to use.

The word abundance has been irritating me recently, it seems to have become a buzzword over the past few years. Now when I hear it on gardening videos I wish I hadn't.

I find it difficult to be rude but if someone uses one of these daft phrases I can't help staring vacantly and saying what do you mean?

I was alwasy told as a child ( at a C of E school) that the X was used as chistian sign interchangeable with a chritian cross.

As an adult i assumed it was to do with a greek letter?

But like Hosta says i would only type it, not say it.

My understanding is that chi or χ is the first letter of the Greek word for Christos or anointed (Χριστός) and was used as a sign by followers of Christianity. Xmas is therefore Christ Mass.

...I was told it was in the past a fish (for the fisher of man) and over time lost the round head and flat tail to become an x..

(I added the smile and twinkling eye for a[ru]tistic reasons).

Wasn't the Chi-Rho what was put on the shields of the Roman soldiers after Constantine's dream?

Not a word, but the letters 'DHL'!
What is the point of texting me an evening delivery slot, then attempting a delivery in the afternoon when no one was at home!
    Grrrrrrrr!!!!
