Despite the expert professor (of Bo!!ocks at the Nonsense University?), I can't help linking the use of "like" to a lack of intelligence. Along with "So", "Look" and "Yeah No", it enables folk to witter on without actually saying anything that makes any sense at all.
When I ask one relative, very down to earth and a professor, for an answer that involves an explanation, he always starts with ‘So, ‘. I think it must be a younger person thing? Thinking back, I would probably have started a similar explanation with ‘Well, ‘ which doesn’t make much sense either.
I think the " So ! " and " well ! " are just a way of giving a bit time to formulate what one is about to say? I don't like either, but that's my theory
'went' is often used to replace 'said' "So I turned around and went like what are you doing snogging my bloke? So she turned round and went like, I thought it was Tuesday"

is Tuesday official " it's ok to snog anyone's bloke " day?

Of course I'm FAR too young to have ever used them.

'So' and 'like' drive me round the bend 🤪😫
I'll start writing a list now.
