I did sow my courgettes on the windowsill @Biglad - in went the seeds on the ends, three days later - triffids! So much more satisfying than those seeds that are more like dust that you have to pot on in clumps.
Nah scones rhymes with stones. The only healthy thing I have eaten today is the strawberries. I was starving this morning tea and toast early, was grannary bread, chunky marmalade.Fancied afternoon tea.Thr old man ate the first one I did, then put himself out a second one, including lashings of jam. He couldn't eat it all,I thought I would Finnish it, but he puts butter on about an inch thick one mouthful, that was enough thanks, just like eating a lump of butter, I use the old British Rail, method spread on,take off
The rain's arrived, although it's not particularly heavy. It's windy though. Managed to get the big euphorbia cut back this morning - I try not to do it when it's sunny. It hasn't enjoyed the weather this winter and was looking decidedly sad.
Hope you're all enjoying your bank holiday.
Going back a while (or possibly changing threads), I had a New Zealand gewurztraminer a few years ago in a posh restaurant - it was fabulous. I don't drink wine (or anything alcoholic) these days, but I used to like a decent NZ sauvignon blanc. Can you get any wine except French, Obs?

Enjoying doing nothing at the moment. Woke up at 2 that's normal, but couldn't get back to sleep, gave up and got up at 4.30 tired now,and tired of waiting for the rain!!
Ooh @raisingirl I love an NZ Sauvignon blanc and used to be able to get it in the Belgian SM I used but not always so I'd buy it by the box when I saw it. I have 2 bottles left here. Special occasions only. I can get furrin wines but never seen NZ and the range of other countries wines is limited so I'm having to learn about grape varieties and experiment a bit.
I have been playing with my hostas, potting on those needing a bit more root space. Not too many slugs and snails but more than I want in my treasures. I'm going to try pot feet this year and see if that helps keep the blighters out.
We never have butter on sconns with jam and cream and definitely jam first. Butter is for fruity or savoury scones. Must make some for the neighbours when it's safe to have them round again. Farmer Luc gets his first jab tomorrow. Other neighbours are younger so we'll have to wait a while longer or else just wait for some warmth in the sun so we can sit outside.

I once met a mildly famous wine critic at a local shop - he was running a wine tasting. When I said I like dry white but not oaky, he suggested a petit chablis that they stocked, which was really nice - an every day sort of dry white as opposed to the NZ sauvignon (which was much more expensive).
I'm ambidextrous on the jam/cream question. Obviously, being Cornish, my instinct is jam first - you get more cream that way, but if I want to fit in with the locals here, I can manage cream first. Butter is strictly for cheese sconns.

Adding my ha'penny worth to the scone ( i say skon) discussion.... neither Cornish nor Devonian ( I'm hoping that is the right word) , but since I am not fond of jam , I sidestep the issue by going with lots of cream only. Cheese scones....( sorry if this puts some of you off your dinner) ... butter and marmite !
I like sconns the way @Obelixx does, definitely no butter with cream, jam first. French cream isn't firm enough to put under the jam anyway and has to be whipped. Can use mascarpone instead, but not the same as English cream. If I have very firm clotted cream in the UK then it can go on before the jam.
Just made a banana cake, with cinnamon, mixed spice, sultanas, cranberries and almonds.
Tackled the new rose bed this afternoon, not quite finished getting the dead grass up. Dug in 3 bags of compost, it will need three or four more.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hi all blowing a hoolie hear at the moment, rain started about 1/2 hour ago. I put the frame for the brassicas up on the plots so glad I decided to leave the netting for another day. At home the wind has blown one of the potted Acers off the patio! Luckily it's fall was broken by a pittisporum. 😅 The 2nd Hosta repotting is on hold I am afraid.
