@celcius_kkw wonder if people would still sniff roses at gardens.. given currrent circumstances.. and I can totally relate to spending time in midst of roses in your balcony.. I have felt the 10am-12noon sun brings the best scent in roses... you can smell the fruitiness in the air..
@newbie77 does summersong blackspot badly? wanted that bold orange colour.. awaiting my LEH bloom to open to compare..
@cooldoc Well.. I am pretty sure I will be sniffing the roses.. to me the beauty and scent of roses go hand in hand.. it’s a bit pointless to visit a rose garden if I am not allowed to smell them.. but you’ve got a point, I should probably check with them. I’ve visited a few gardens during covid times and most do not require visitors to wear a mask while outdoors, assuming social distancing rules are adhered to..
@Desi_in_London My Easy Does It definitely gets shades of pink, but it is in full sun. I like the orange pink combination very much. I have Prince of Orange sweet peas to match.
@Katsa I really like this rose so far. I just went out to smell it, but couldn’t feel anything. But then I tried to smell Harlow Carr and couldn’t smell anything either. And I know that Harlow Carr fills the garden with scent. It might be too early? When is the scent in roses most pronounced?
@cooldoc, regarding summer song, it blackspots but that's not major issue. The main problem is it doesn't want to become a shrub. Just a tall lanky thing. Mine is in second year. Even though I pruned it in spring it grew mostly single cane from each cut. I have it as three plants, planted close together.
Wonderful roses to feast the eye and feed the soul everyone. Things slowing down a little here as many reach the end of their first flush, but I’m sure I’ll manage to rustle up a few contributions 😊
Plenty still to come on Munstead Wood, now in it’s magenta phase. Seems to have spread it’s blooming out over a longer period this year, rather than a single, bloom-packed first flush like last year. Interesting…
A big cluster on HT Deep Secret - twelve buds on a single cane:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Sorry I've taken time to reply @SeahorseFriend , but had the daughter to stay over the weekend ( it was a late Christmas 🎄 giving presents and meals)
Blue for You is five years old and in that time has made this height twice. Most years it just gets a general cut back ( one year it put on so much growth it was five foot tall, so I gave it a severe cut, it sulked for a year) but it grows back beautifully. I am now in the garden watering, and from a bench 12 feet away I can smell its fragrance wafting on the breeze.🥰
