Line of duty very popular at work, I'm the only one who hasn't seen it. But we barely watch TV at all anymore. Just don't have the time!
We watch Gardeners World though. OH has started watching it with me this year which is lovely. She's much more into the gardening now. Still leaving our back garden to me but taking a very active role in the allotment.
@Fire - I've also tried notching on the espalier trees at the allotment to no effect. Will try again though.
For your eyes only is starting to show some colour, on one lonely bud.
Desdemona also has a bud. This was bare root in Nov so doing well.
I thought the people who replaced my fence had destroyed Blue Moon, it got very trampled but it's sent out new shoots, the resilience of this rose is mad! I've never seen it bloom yet as something always happens to it but still just keeps coming back.
This is the rose bed and it's looking very full, I'm away next week and I bet it starts flowering. Think I'm going to have to do some moving in the autumn, for your eyes and Rhapsody in Blue have taken off and the small alliums are growing like weeds!
It's funny how @Nollie's Soul array really is a physical relief to me, somehow. A joy to see.
I watched the first few seasons of LoD and it left me a bit cold. I'm not very into dramas. I've had enough family drama to last several lifetimes. Now I prefer bees and roses. 🐝
Soapy water spray really does a number on aphids. My baby rugosas on the windowsill were covered in them, more than I could easily squish. So I sprayed with soapy water and the aphids have since gone brown and shrivelled up.
Would only use inside though. There were just far too many on such young plants.
But you should have seen the horror on my youngest’s (3 next month) face when I started doing it! “No! Don’t do that, it’s mean. Leave them for the birds! Etc.”
@Tack i forgot you had bees, hubby has decided he would really like to get a small hive next year. I love bees so im quite happy to agree, everywhere is fenced from dogs anyway now so its safe. I was worried about needing to leave lots of space round hive though or are they less fussed about you gardening nearby? Brought a few more single roses this year especially for bees, as I do love my doubles. I dont use pesticides etc and try to plant as many bee friendly flowers as I can.
I watched all but the last series of LoD and I didn't get the H reference either (and I'm from the East Midlands)
Beautiful sky photo @Tack. Glad your bees are doing ok, I've been worrying about the insects in this inclement weather. I thought I'd lost the wild swarm in my chimney this year, they appeared early in the year and then I didn't see them for a while, I wondered if they had died out or if I was losing my eyesight. They are still there though happily, zooming back and forth, perhaps they had sufficient reserves to baton back down during the cold patch. I feel very lucky to have my chimney selected. I've never seen them swarm and they must have been there about 6 years now.
Are you finding your newest selection of roses more suitable for your climate @Nollie or is it too early to tell? Looking at your roses I wonder if I haven't got sufficiently sumptuous colours! I liked seeing your photos on the garden gallery too, seeing how everything fitted together.

@Nollie What a fabulous Soul, doing you proud there.
