Interesting comparison of my 4 Gabriels (no. 1 is 2nd year, the rest are 1st year). No. 4 is planted exactly where a rose was (The Prince for a year and a different rose before that) and also on the sunniest and dryest end of the bed. No. 1 is also exactly where a rose was but seems perfectly ok. 2 and 3 are slightly shifted from where roses were.
Everything green here too. 'Scarborough Fair' in the rose bed (left) looks really good. I don't show this part of the garden often, so here it is. I added some new plants last autumn, made it slightly wider, and moved some foliage plants there. Rose 'Narrow Water' growing nicely (support not added yet). A potted cat Now focusing on the rose there... 'Clarence House' 'Princess Alexandra of Kent' 'Joie de Vivre', my healthiest and most reliable rose... no fragrance unfortunately.
@edhelka - your first years look better than my second. Granted I did move him, but it was in early dormant period and Eustacia moved at the same time already has lots of buds.
..fingers crossed, things are looking up weather wise and we can put this awful Spring behind us..
... 'Cornelia' is always in the first 5 to open here,.. about 3 weeks late.. 'Scented Garden' still struggling to open.. Dry Garden today after rain.. ..central to it is 'Stipa gigantea', with its 8 feet plumes towering over everything else.. ..I like to keep less than 50 spikes, about 30 is fine for me.. it will produce over 100 flowering shoots on a mature plant, which I find too many.. just coming into flower.. Geranium sanguineum 'Matt Frei' has a long season.. underplanting for Lady of Shalott..
We too, had torrential rain for a solid twelve hours yesterday, it was awful. Today my landscapers have arrived and thankfully it's dry at the moment. They are going to lay a new utility path between a border and the privet hedge, about 11m x 1m - I'm fed up with cats/foxes pooing on the original bark mulch path. After some discussion about levels, they have untied my 7ft high Claire Austin climbing rose from the top of the arbour, propped it up with fencing pins and lifted the arbour, which is now face down on the lawn. It's very top heavy with a solid roof so not well designed really. This will make it easier to lay new paving underneath to match the path. The rose has grown quite big this year and is full of buds so I'm hoping we won't get any more high winds - fingers crossed.
Your Astronomia is absolutely gorgeous @Nollie. There is a feature on single flowered roses in this month's Gardens Illustrated and none look as fabulous as that! Yes, I did watch the Peter Beales video on how they dress their Chelsea stall @Marlorena. I liked the idea of the upside down obelisk and admit I did look on the Peter Beales site for procumbent roses. Then checked myself - no pot, no obelisk, no room. The tall one looked so pretty.
I couldn't resist buying this today from my local GC. It's 'Timeless Charisma', I hope it isn't going to be a case of twice bitten. I bought 'Timeless Purple' last year, and although the blooms were beautiful, they just went to mush at the mere suggestion of rain, so it had to go. The new growth is an absolutely stunning purple, with the older leaves a deep green, tinged with purple. I shall put this one in a pot so when it rains I can move it to shelter if need be.
@didyw, I think you really want this rose, sorry for dangling a French fancy in front of you then snatching it away! Maybe they will sort out the UK plant import/phytosanitary cert issues by next bare root season. We can only hope.
Rain keeps threatening here, but hasn’t made it over the mountains yet..
Oranges and Lemons Border - there is new Super Trouper in middle, a cane just peeking over the Californian poppies. It looks squished, but there is a good 3ft of room in there:

Hopefully he’ll pick up.
Now I forgot which rose was which, one is Scarborough Fair and the other Skylark
.. I love your Acer edhelka... quite a stunning feature in your border..
Nollie, scents are hard to describe I know... I especially like the one, usually what they call Old Rose, that has a whiff of apple in it..
...well, what a night, another howling gale and pouring rain outside.. Jeez...
