My phone said yesterday there was a 10% chance of rain literally at that moment hubby says it's raining,he can hear it on the conservatory roof. We were debating whether to leave hanging baskets out they've been put in the days, I watched the 2 forecasts, one after the other, 10c 6c maybe frost,it was 9c in the night
I have been nagging the old man for a water butt out the front. We have 6 don't get much off green houses one from the front gutters from the bungalow would make sense. We get s lot of very drying winds from the South Downs and they often keep the rain from us.course you can get "posh" ones, but what price!!!
Yay! First proper wet day in months yesterday, and more overnight. The butts are now full and the garden looks lovely and refreshed. Can I put in a repeat order, once a week for the next six months please! Midweek for preference
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
Had half an inch yesterday & overnight but still need a lot more here. I once read that an inch of rain is supposed to be enough to moisten the soil down to about 8 inches depth; I just checked, and my soil is still as dry as a bone below the top 4 inches, so it looks like that's a pretty good rule of thumb. The wind smashing the raindrops against the windows all day and night made it sound like we were getting a lot more than we had.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
Ditto Bob's comment. We had a bit of rain last night. Sounded really heavy but it wasn't - just the wind was throwing it against the windows. We need sooooo much more.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Similar here too, waterbuts hardly changed level, realised the connection pipe was half blocked with silt and moss off the roof , so a lot will have gone straight down the drain. 🙁
They're here in Denmark to, lovely steady rain coming down has been for hours, no wind just soft rain.. we need about a week of it though as it's the first rain in 3-4 weeks. There's been some impressive sand storms round here recently.
