@punkdoc very sorry to hear about your mum, I hope she has a comfortable passing and that you are all able to get to see her (the hospital should be able to let you all in; at least mine does for end of life visits).
Nanny Beach, I’d be inclined to contact his son, if you have a phone number, as he is evidently doing his main shop. Explain that you have been doing top up shops and getting his papers, but his dad hasn’t been able to get cash to reimburse you, and it’s getting very awkward for you, and embarrassing to have to keep asking him for payment for the items. Does he want to take over the daily papers, and extra items, or would he be happy for you to give him, the son, the receipts to organise payment for you? Hopefully, that will reflect the situation accurately, that you are a caring friend and would like to organise a solution that ensures his dad gets everything he needs, but doesn’t leave you out of pocket. Does that sound worth a try, assuming you have contact details?
Hi @punkdoc, sorry our posts crossed and I missed your sad news. My thoughts are with you and your family. Such a difficult time for you all. I hope it eases soon.

Thank you so much for your kind wishes. I know I should be happy, because her last year has been so terrible, but I did want to see her, and probably won't be able to now. I have been advised that I should not go, due to my health, at least until I have had the second dose of the vaccine, which is not due till the end of May. She is a truly remarkable woman, one day I might tell some of the story.
