I am on an oil powered boiler and prices for diesel, apart from last year, have been high. I will be looking into the heat pump system as Macron would like us all on this. Had the house insulated (roof) last year on the govt system of 1€. Would like to see if I can get a hybrid system installed.
@steephill completely agree on the supply chain. If the Government didn't keep flip-flopping on policy then business would invest. If, for example, there was a clear time line for a boiler scrappage scheme or the like, gas qualified plumbers would be taking courses in heat pump installation. At the moment, they don't see the need to do it. Our ASHPs were installed by the plumber who did the rest of the pipework and commissioned by the supplier, so cost a lot less than getting a specialist to install them. They aren't difficult. OH put the GSHP in - we had to get a company in to drill the borehole (which cost as much as the heat pump). Again, we paid the supplier to come along and set it all up. They cost about £5k, typically, so x3 or 4 what a boiler costs. And because they don't save much money, there's no 'payback' on the outlay. The fact that you've reduced your carbon emissions by about 80% is neither here nor there to most people. It's all about the money, unless you qualify for the RHI, which in mainland UK is designed to pay back the cost of the heat pump in 7 years. Anyone want to bet on the UK Government not deciding to scrap the RHI next year? No, me neither.

Oh I am definitely one of the nice people my late Mum said that l had MUG tattooed on my forehead.I definitely wouldn't trust EDF energy supply was with them when we moved here, they set my economy 7 meter wrong way round, took a staggering. NINE months to sort out
Good morning all, another sunny warm day forecast, I thought we may be getting some rain tomorrow but that seems to be diminishing now, where is our usual April rain? Had to water some plants in the garden yesterday, will have to keep an eye on young Amelanchiers and hedging. Tender plants are still in the GH. I thought I would order some Agastache plants on line but there doesn't seem to be much selection anywhere.
EDF aren't the only people who can sell you a heat pump. They just happen to have a nice clear video on their site to explain how a hybrid system works. If you don't want to have a heat pump then don't get one. It's not necessary to try to rubbish the whole idea.

@Hostafan1 that's a bit harsh, there are some very nice people on the Rez thread, some used to post here I missed them when they left.
@D0rdogne_Damsel which weather forecast do you use? I was surprised when you mentioned frosts next week as here, further south though than you, it is far too warm for frosts. I looked up your town where the Ch de Gat is on Meteo France and the coldest, one night, is 4° and there will be a bit of rain that night.
I've planted my tomatoes, hope I don't regret it. But if Covid allows me to go to the UK for OH's operation in July they will probably die anyway, unless someone is willing to water them, which they may be.
Another sunny day. The sprinkler is on in the veg garden. I'm going to mow all the fiddly bits with the battery lawnmower.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Haven't rubbished the "whole" idea, have read lots of gen,a few years ago we were told all new builds would have solar panels fitted, that hasn't happened. I have an emersion heater and electric fire in my lounge, doing everything I reasonably can for me and the planet. We had quotes for solar, not feasible
I haven't mentioned whether heat pumps work in old houses, the friends I have in old houses have log burners, just talking about heating in general, easier to put solar panels on when building a property

This is a UK website but EDF almost certainly run a similar scheme over there.

Morning @Busy-Lizzie 🙋♀️ thank you.
Hi everyone
It was meant in jest, honest. More of a compliment to Forkers than anything else.
