    Afternoon all,

Had a busy morning in my garden without actually doing any gardening in my own garden :o

In the next few weeks I'm going to replace the back fence, which is shared with 3 neighbours. One of the panels is behind the shed with a very small gap for Biglad's big a*** to get into. The neighbour has ivy which has rampaged over/through the fence onto the back of my shed so I squeezed into the gap and 'trimmed' the ivy (and a rather aggressive holly bush!) for them ;) Getting the rotten panel out should be quite easy now but getting the new one in might take some doing in that confined space.

At the other end of the back fence a neighbour's tree was heavily cut back a few years ago but the cowboys didn't take away all of the debris created. I went round and introduced myself (I've only lived here 20 years :D) to ask him if that corner of his back garden (which he can't see because it his hidden behind his shed) had been deliberately turned into a potential wildlife haven. It looked like branches had just been dumped where nobody could see, but, I suppose (at a push!) it could've been intended as a hedgehog/insect hotel of sorts. Anyway, it isn't so I went back round to mine and dragged it all over into my garden and chopped it all up for the garden waste bin. The larger branches have now been sawed into another bag of logs, which I'll find a suitable home for. That should make that end panel a lot easier to get in as well. The ones in between have an empty border in front of them so will be a piece of cake.

Just need to order the panels, get a good forecast for a Saturday or Sunday and find a little helper. Actually a big, strong helper would be better ;)

Debs, I am one of 6 and I have to say that we had years of fun together when we were still younger and today we are still very close (apart from Ozzie brother) hence our February holidays together.
Biglad, my fence is in a dreadful state - falling apart but next door have ivy growing all over it and I cannot see how another fence could be put up. I'm going to wait now until nesting season is over though as I have seen quite a bit of bird activity and I don't want to disturb any nests.
I've just been having a laugh with handy brother today. About three weeks ago he got a letter to say that he should continue to shield, not go out, get others to do his shopping etc. etc. The thing is, this is the first time he has heard anything about shielding and for the last year he has been going out shopping, meeting me to eat in pubs last year - when we could, and basically carrying on carrying on. Part two of the saga arrived yesterday in the post to say that all clinically vulnerable people who have been shielding will no longer need to do so after April 1st this year and his letter had the facsilmile signature of Matt (Hancock) and one other signatory whose name escapes me. Any Rezzers who have been shielding or have relatives shielding should be getting their letters soon advising them of this.
The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter.

Ante, that temperature would be no good for me either. I cannot put up with excessive heat. 21° - 22° is comfortable for me.

    Evening everyone,
Biglad What a considerate neighbour you are, it’s all to easy to fall out with people over things like fences so it’s nice when it can be done amicably. As for a helper, I attempted to help lift a panel in with my OH once and it was clear that I could not lift it high enough, knees knocking and arms trembling I gave it my all but failed miserably 😅
LB Must be lovely to be part of a big family, nice when you all get on so well. I hope you’ll soon be able to have those holidays and family get togethers soon. Was handy brother pleased he only needed to shield for two weeks 😀
Waiting for the work party to finish messing about with the car, so we can have our dinner together. Have a nice evening everyone.

I'm quite happy to rip out all of the neighbour's ivy along with the fence, @Ladybird4! I think it's horrible, destructive stuff. I'm not even sure they can see it through the trees, holly bush and laurel on their side. It'll soon grow back anyway :o

Most of the panels are now the consistency of soggy cardboard rather than wood. They're barely attached to each other and falling off with increasing regularity. Doesn't help that the local feline population seem to regard them as multiple cat-flaps.

Evening all,   Had a mixed day weatherwise here, it was quite chilly this morning but when the sun came out this afternoon is was lovely.  Managed to get a fair bit of gardening in, dug out some crocosmia Lucifer (don't like the colour) and replace it with some blue lupins grown from seed.  Tied in a couple of clematis and a climbing rose.  Planted some violas and mowed and edged the lawns.  Had a cuppa and rounded off the day by sowing a few trays of seeds.  No frost forecast so tender plants should be OK outside. Slowly working my way through the Spring jobs.
    Hope everyone is OK.

Well done for your efforts today Yvie. Chive, handy brother was highly amused and intends to save the two letters for future hilarity.

Biglad, I have to say that the fence in your pictures looks in pretty good nick (Ante - condition) compared to mine!
