Afternoon everyone, just a steady drizzle set in for the day, Rubee I hope you still have that sunshine, how is your crochet coming along? LB phew! What a relief to see hoppity, some other poor unfortunate fell victim to the Sparrowhawk, Debs Shame your hay fever is playing up, take it easy with your back too, SGL Good to hear you had a good night, hope you have an equally good day, Rosie Glad you’ve got a means of getting online thank goodness, we are lost without it. Yes 30 children can feel like trying to herd marbles on a slope, nigh on impossible 🥴 Hazel Pleased you have some sun today, nice to get out in the garden and see what’s growing, Topbird Good that the landscaper has got started on the work for you, rotten news about the honey fungus discovery though is there no way to treat it? Another impromptu purchase as I popped into L*dl for some groceries, a nice sturdy hand hoe/rake that’s going to be so useful.Â
Afternoon folks, Now I know you all said to take it easy, but I rarely do as I'm told. We put the raised bed together this morning and spent the rest of the day filling it. It is now complete and I'm sure both of us will suffer a bit tomorrow. Still have quite a few pots to fill with new compost to complete the veg patch but I'm glad we've broke the back of it. I'm sitting down with a cuppa and wondering what to watch on the TV.
I agree Debs - having hay fever throughout the summer must be really miserable. Exposure to a lot of rape seed or grass pollen can set me off - but it has to be a lot and I would never describe myself as a hayfever sufferer - just a touch now and again. Itchy eyes and tickly nose are not nice though.
Chive - unfortunately honey fungus is a most dreaded disease for good reason. It spreads underground so you can't see where it is and the first signs are when a (often large or mature - usually expensive!) shrub or tree suddenly start to look a bit sickly and then they start dying. No treatments available - just have to learn to live with it & plant slightly less susceptible plants. Unfortunately my garden has many roses, crab apples and viburnum - all highly susceptible. What with that and the muntjac (who has now started on the emerging alliums🤬) I may yet invest in an industrial quantity of concrete....
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Afternoon all. Hazel, stirling work done by your OH on the gate. Good to see you Rosie. T'Bird, thats bad news about the honey fungus. So sorry to hear that. I really, really enjoyed Bloodlands T'Bird and I have just binged Grace - brilliant! I will be looking for more Peter James for my e-reader. Yvie, well done on your joint efforts too, I am sure you will get lots of enjoyment out of your raised bed. I was relieved to see Hoppity, thanks for all who commented. I think I will have a late lunch now
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
I discovered that I had a missing round soffit vent whilst I was clearing the gutter so I had to order some of those today. I had a village survey to complete - relating to traffic, open spaces and car parks - or lack of in and around the village. I got that done online. I then rang the dentist in the village - who I rang 6 months ago about being taken onto their practise. A rather bored sounding lady informed me that at the moment they are not signing anyone on but that they will call me at a later date. Finally I managed to pot on some Hoya cuttings I have persuaded to grow and thats where my day has gone so far.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Raining this morning but this afternoon it came out beautifully although the wind did get up a bit.
I have sowed some Marigold seeds this afternoon. I never have much luck with them and I dont know why.
After stalling the new kitchen preparations, I have bit the bullet and contacted the workmen who will be helping with it. It is looking like they are all available at the right times in June. I am quite happy with that. The weather will be warmer and we can live on salads for however long we need to.
SB I love Alliums. I bought some bulbs my first year in my garden and the flower proudly in the middle of one of my flower beds. I am pretty sure they have multiplied as there seems to be more coming through than what I recall last year. I need to start taking specific photos so I can compare.
Evening PR. It must be nice to know that your kitchen renovations will be taking place when hopefully the weather will be more reliably pleasant. Fingers crossed for your marigolds - you've just reminded me that I have some new marigold seeds somewhere. Finding them can go onto the 'to do' list! I'm signing out for tonight people. Have lovely evenings all. See you tomorrow.
