Bought my first bag of Levington's in preparation for seedlings at the beginning of this year. It needed sieving to remove the chunks of wood and rocks, but what made it my last bag was the pieces of glass.
McEnroe from the tennis has just admitted that he was paid to throw a tantrum and behave like a spoilt brat all those years ago, I wonder if all those who parrot "peat free" are paid to say it as I cannot believe that would say it willingly.
I would strongly suspect so. The BBC pays their wages and almost certainly promotes the "themes" that crop up ad-nausea; plastic, peat free, don't cut the grass...etc etc.. The "Paradise Garden" for example was built (I'm sure) to promote his book & more importantly for the BBC, the resultant TV programme.
This reminds of a time that someone said about Monty always saying something nice about those home videos but Adam didn't? The producer will tell you what to say about the home videos, even if you think they're terrible. Maybe Adam refused to lie to camera.
" We are back with Monty at Longmeadow this week, where he catches up with all his summer jobs in the border and the vegetable garden.
Carol Klein gets inspiration for planting combinations when she explores the garden rooms at Cothay Manor and Gardens in Somerset, and Arit Anderson goes to RHS Wisley to find out about their research into the variety and function of the different slugs and snails found in our gardens.
We celebrate an iconic summer flower when we travel to Staffordshire to meet a family who specialise in growing a huge variety of sweet peas. "
By the way, there is no programme next week (16th July) due to coverage of the golf .
Arit and Monty will never get me to like and live with slugs and snails! I've only got a very small garden - a little courtyard and two borders either side of a path. Every plant is important, with many alpines in pots. It is so dispiriting when a solitary specimen is ravaged by them. I will do all I can to get rid of the little bu****s!
Adam's segment on mixing up compost was, by far, the most Reithian 5 or so minutes of Gardeners World that I can recall in years - simply brilliant! As a relatively novice gardener, that is precisely the content that I would like to see more of. And it was a far, far better way to encourage gardeners to use peat-free compost than Monty's holier than thou proselytising.

“It's still magic even if you know how it's done.”
Monty is in his garden and all is well in my world!
