We didn't have a car or phone till I was in my mid teens . We had to have a party line with ndn too, we had exclusive use then when they wanted a line we had to share. I don't remember my father's early cars, he had to give up the car when the company he worked for folded, and he had to start from the bottom again. I was just a baby so I don't remember it. When he got a car again ironically it was a 1953 Morris Minor WKR 53 so it was the same age as me. Two of my Uncles had Austin cambridge cars, well one was the basic Cambridge the other had the up market Riley version. I rode motorbikes exclusively for over 20 years, even though I had a car license as well, when I got a car it was a Vauxhall Nova. I always said I couldn't afford a Ferrari, or a Porsche, the bikes were faster 0-60 anyway .
No idea what the year was but I was born in 53 and I was young but I do remember my dad's car was black with a running board. When I was a Girl Guide I carried 4d in a leather purse on my belt for the phone.
Busy L,I was born in 1950,when I said no cars, I meant for the likes of us,my late father had a bicycle, then motorcycle, got an Austin ruby when I was 10,I see a couple of folks on here didn't have a house phone till their teens yes would have been the same here, only reason I could actually ring the first boyfriend was his father was CID,and their phone was linked to main police station
I can remember all my Dad's cars, he had a very gaudy Ford Capri, John Player Special (I used to smoke those fags!) Reg R990 UDR . Black with gold stripes. Must have rubbed off on me as I drive an Audi TT convertible, red and black edition with a presumptuous plate XX02SAM given to me by an ex boyfriend
I didn't learn to drive till I was 30, cycled everywhere,we lived in s village with one bus an hour, and that stopped afternoons, first car was a Datson Cherry.my late mum always said when she won the pools, she would pay for me to have driving lessons,in the end,it was an inherence from her uncle.up till then even visiting parents was walking to bus stop, bus to the station, train, bus, to her house.a great deal of my friends have never learned to drive
Morning all, my parents didn't have a car at all when I was a child, my dad had a motor bike and at some time acquired a side car. As we were four children if we went anywhere as a family we went on the bus. Even in a rural area the timetable would allow you to go to the cinema in the evenings and connected with the trains at the station 10 miles away. Holidays involved tortuous journeys on the train, must have taken all day. I remember going via a big London station to get from Cambridgeshire to the coast at Clacton. I still have never learnt to drive (at least not sufficiently to pass the test).
I’m sitting in bed listening to a wren singing and watching the huge almost full moon drift low across the western sky ... OH is sound asleep so I’ve tiptoed down to make my own coffee ... now my feet are cold ... now I’ll have to keep them to myself until they thaw out
It looks as if we’re in for a lovely spring day ... the Under Gardener says he’ll give the ‘lawns’ their first cut ... and we have compost ... re-potting and seed sowing can start 🌱 🌱 🌱
It’ll be a quick supper ... probably pasta with broccoli from the garden.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
College for me today.....have made my packed lunch and flask of tea so that I am self sufficient 😇. Several masks packed, and handgel topped up. The checklist before walking out the door seems to have got longer (or maybe its just because I am so unaccustomed to going out the door 🤔). Last day before the Easter hols.
We avoided a frost last night - which is good as all our magnolias have started to flower 🌸. Have checked on the greenhouse babies and all is looking good 🌱🌱🌱

Lovely here again.
How exciting for you @Dovefromabove, I hope it won't be another year before you get to go out again.
