My niece bought me a subscription to a site called Seed Pantry.  I get to choose 6 items a month for 6months.  TBH it's mostly ornamentals so a bit limited for us as our garden is pretty full of perennials but anyway, for this month I got 3 lots of gladioli, and 3 Hemerocallis. In almost a first for us we have planted the Hemerocallis in the front garden,  they only arrived yesterday!  I think I mentioned we have done quite a bit to the front for change this year.  It doesn't look much in the picture but there's a lot of potential under that  mulch.  🙂

Thats a very nice present @Allotment Boy. Looking forward to more pics when everything starts growing.
I'm busy doing the opposite and taking plants out to simplify my borders. Hoping to mulch them tomorrow.

  • Had a very satisfying afternoon weeding a small bed infested with ground elder; how good is that feeling when you pull a root and hey ho a little green sprig comes away a foot later!! Eases the mind and soul ... Potted on the last of the bare root Aqualegias and 10 pelargoniums, treat received in the post today. Tula2 puppy on best behaviour. Nearly 1900 and all I can hear is the birds twittering - delightful! Got my contract today for new job with Wolves Uni, things moving on so better get those seeds sown and new veg patch finished before the w word interferes with my passion ...cheeseburger and chips being delivered shortly....how bad 👎 😕 😐 😁😁😁
  • Thank you so much @Obelixx, that's exactly the kind of thing I am looking for. I don't know these stores but apparently they have them in Limoges, and I have to go on Monday to get more wallpaper for the upstairs tearoom. Perfect.

Sadly, I bought Easter Bunting to decorate the tearoom early last February, it didn't get used then because of Covid and now it won't get used this year either. :( Who would have thought it.

@Dovefromabove @WonkyWomble and @Busy-Lizzie - I'd be sick even watching those gallopers.  :'( Never been good at fairgrounds.

@sam bevington, I have been having the same battle with stinging nettles - extremely satisfying.

Your front garden looks great @Allotment Boy , I am so enjoying the anticipation of things popping up (hopefully what and where I planted them). Exciting isn't it. Great present, very thoughtful niece.

I am feeling a little anxious this evening, I'm not sure if I mentioned it already, one of my customers I deliver supper to every Friday has become very confused and disorientated. I mentioned my concerns to someone who also knows her and now an 'official' concern has been raised and someone is going to visit and check up on her. Of course it is the right thing to happen, she has gone downhill very fast recently, but I do hope she doesn't get angry or accuse me of interfering. I had been hoping that friends could have checked/helped but because of Covid nobody wants to put her at risk by visiting. Apparently she hasn't left the flat for a year, this Covid situation certainly has led to complex situations and dilemmas aside from the primary illness.

All ingredients found for Hot Cross Buns, any useful tips/must do ideas people?

    Evening.

I have seeds germinating!!! I love seeing them come up - always delights.

Early night for me as had a busy day - took Dad to hospital appointment (we both over 2 weeks post 2nd jab so I thought safer than a taxi for him). It’s the first time we’ve spent more than a doorstep visit since last Summer, and that was only a cuppas outside. I was a bit sad to see how his walking has deteriorated. Came home and worked on front garden - power washing, sweeping, pruning and more sweeping. My back is aching tonight!

Hope you are all doing ok.

@D0rdogne_Damsel beware Gifi - it has all sorts of strange and wonderful or just strange stuff but is generally good on seasonal indoor/table/garden/picnic gear and - round here - beach gear.   ACTION also has a bewildering array of stuff - like an old Woollies - and crafty bits and seasonal stuff.

I find home-made hot cross buns very tasty but heavy compared to the commercial ones made using the Chorleywood industrial fast rise formula.  I did these last year and we enjoyed them - https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/hot_cross_buns_74750

Sounds like a busy but productive day @AuntyRach.   Hope you don't ache tomorrow.

  • Thanks again @Obelixx, what do you buy as 'strong' bread flour here? There's so many bread making choices?

@D0rdogne_Damsel Don't make much bread and tend to use spelt/épautre for naans.  For anything else I use organic bread flour, wholemeal if possible, from Leclerc.  You need to look at the T number on the packet.  Have a look at this info on the different kinds in France - http://aulevain.canalblog.com/archives/2008/08/21/10304760.html

  • That's extremely helpful @Obelixx, we have a Biocoop in town too so should get what I need there. I've always used British flour until now (Brexit 🙄) but I'm on the last of it now.
