Hello everyone. Debs, you have a very strong willpower. Chive, I was fascinated by your description of 'Skipping Day'. What a wonderful old tradition and long may it remain. I'm only sad that this is the first time in my life I've heard of it.
Its trying to brighten up here and my first task of the day is to fill the bird feeders. Now that the water has gone down at the bottom end of the garden, I can fill up the peanut feeders as well. You are right SGL all days seem to come by again in the blink of an eye. I think for Lent, rather than giving something up, I might try to be a  bit more active as I feel just like a slug after this last year.

  • Good Morning Hazel, sorry to hear you are feeling that way, look after yourself take care 💕
LB Sorry to say it wasn’t me, PurpleRose has the skipping day tradition in fact I’m hard pushed to think of any local traditions other than the Southend mud run but I’ve not partaken in that 😀
I’ve managed to get a few bits done this morning, time for a cuppa. I hope you are all having a good day.

D'oh Chive and PR, what a twonk I am. Apologies both. I've just done 2 and a half hours work in the back garden. Both green bins are now full and ready for tomorrow. That is me done for the day now though. Back and hands protesting a little.
You must be really tired Hazel. Have a nice rest today if you can and recharge your batteries.

Sorry you are feeling a bit under the weather Hazel .look after yourself .
Pancake day was Whip and Top day here in West Yorkshire . I was rubbish at it .😊
  • Hazel sorry you're feeling a bit low today.  Hope you feel more like you soon. Take care and have a restful day.
  • Afternoon All, dropped mum to the hospital now waiting for the call to collect.
LB No apology necessary I’m often in a muddle 🙃, you have certainly been busy in the garden this morning I hope the afternoon has been of a more leisurely pace
@Rubee Whip & top day sounds intriguing, what is involved in that?

Chive Whip and Top day was the beginning of the whip and top season which continued until Easter and beyond if the weather  was good .Most children who were old enough to play with the whip and top would compete against one another to see how long they could keep their tops spinning . There was great rivalry and quite a lot of cheating went on . Obviously the child who kept their top spinning  the longest won the competition . There were many competitions .If our mums had time they would make buns or gingerbread for the winners . Everyone eventually got a bun . I think this tradition varied in different areas of Leeds ,where I lived .

Ruby, I used to play whip and top when I was small and I was pretty good at it Dad often used to have to replace the brass stud in the 'nose' of the top because mine always seemed to work loose.
Thats the way to do it Hazel! You definitely deserve to sit back and enjoy. Is it pre treated or will you need to seal it? Bet your hand is itching to have a paint brush in it again.

  • Evening everyone,
@Rubee Thank you for the explanation of Whip & Top that sounds like a lot of fun to play, I can imagine the competition being fierce to keep it spinning the longest. Buns as a trophy that is worth winning 😋
Hazel Thank you yes it all went ok they have recommended mum to have laser treatment, I’m pleased it resolved the problem for your OH. Good job done today I bet the chap was pleased to be given the work & it makes a lot sense while he was there with the tools.
LB How is your scarf coming along are you close to finishing?
No Rosie today, I hope she isn’t having technical issues.
