"G Rozanne takes a long time to show up, being deciduous... better
evergreen cover to be had from Geranium oxonianum, G riversleianum and G
cantabrigiense varieties.. always useful to have a selection of those I
find.. Another evergreen beauty is Geranium traversii."
How great! Are any of these particularly long flowering? Thanks.
Rozanne. Once it starts it goes on and on often into November and even December if the weather is mild. Makes quite a wide mound. Mine is in shade in the afternoon and flowers better than one I planted in full sun. Cantabrigiense. Found this is shorter and neater and if you want a spreader this is perfect. Red foilage in autumn pale pink flowers, i had Biokovo variety. The leaves are scented and weirdly for me they had the same smell as our first caravan! Odd I know but it bought back memories.
Interestingly Rozanne isn’t as thuggish here as in the UK, some of the past photos on the Garden Gallery thread show it enormous and swamping everything. It still takes up a reasonable amount of space though, so I would echo @Marlorena’s caution about planting it close to roses, I think it would compete too much.. and I agree about the beauty of rose foliage, and buds and sepals...
My favourite for foliage is still Lady Emma Hamilton, despite her needing a mineral shot now and then to correct paling leaves:

@JessicaS Wisteria are vulnerable to frost when flowering , mine seem to get hit by frost every year which means no flowers . If they are on a wall like Nollie the wall will retain the heat and release it over night . You are probably fine in the Midlands , don't expect flowers for a few years though as long as its a grafted variety which they usually are if you bought it in a Garden centre .
Nice visiting place where they plant on a huge scale, I am looking forward to the new RHS Bridgewater opening hopefully soon.
Lady Emma Hamilton does have nice spring foliage display
Same here, very wilty out front which is quite exposed, back garden which is sheltered is fine though.
Looking chilly for several days yet, the overnight lows keep getting pushed back too. Last week when I checked, it was supposed to be above freezing from today onwards. The sun feels wonderful though.
@Perki Its a proper grafted one (6 years old now) and well established. It flowered last year for the first time. Covered in even more buds this year after some careful pruning. Its on a wooden fence and partially through my roses. Im nottingham way and Lowest ive seen it drop to here is -3 / -4. Its at the budding stage where its covered in the funny fluffy pinecone looking buds, Im not sure how vulnerable those are or if its just when it actually opens which is a month away.
This is it last year in May - Ive got a pergola bed there now as well and have started trying to train it better but its through the roses and poking over the fence too so I'll be busy in summer tying it in properly and training it back the right way
Beautiful snow photos all! Your garden is coming on very well @JessicaS, good to see the progress.
I hope the frosts are over now, my garden has been bent over with cold every morning for about a week and many things are now folded and not recovering in the sun. Lots of raggy foliage and a few bits fell off my new Crown Princess Margarita
I’m afraid it hasn’t dropped below zero for a nearly a week, but we are due frost again in the next couple of days and the rain and icy cold winds from the north make it feel much colder if that’s any consolation @Marlorena!

I don't wish it on you @Nollie ... we don't want those frosts right now..
..just to compare with Omori.. here's my forecast for what it's worth.. although this one I often find is reasonably accurate.. as opposed to whatever BBC uses, which is so often way off the mark, even on the very day.. don't they ever look out the window?..
