    Patience DD.  Rozanne spreads but doesn't root once it gets going.

    @D0rdogne_Damsel You could fill some obvious gaps with annuals.

    ...all very nice @JessicaS
    ..coming along really well isn't it.. and with the arch now in place too... it's a good sized arch by the looks of it..

    @Nollie
    I rather liked the bluey grey for contrast, but I know what you mean... might look better all the same.. dark wood enhances yellow and white roses I think.. maybe not reds and purples so much..
    Oh, and I thought your Pure Poetry looking really good..

    @D0rdogne_Damsel
    G Rozanne takes a long time to show up, being deciduous... better evergreen cover to be had from Geranium oxonianum, G riversleianum and G cantabrigiense varieties.. always useful to have a selection of those I find..  Another evergreen beauty is Geranium traversii, which should do well in your location..
    I would also caution that 5 G Rozanne's will produce a swamping effect around your roses in a year or two...

  • There is an apple tree on the edge of the bed where the ground is hard and difficult to plant in because the tree roots are near the surface, any ideas what could go in around there? I did have anemones in but they didn't like it. :(

  • Thank you @JessicaS.  I have tried the soapy water method, hosing and flicking them off daily but the buggers still appear again each day.  They are very determined!!  Although I get a lot of birds in the back garden they don't seem to come to the front of the house very much where I have a lot of roses in pots.  BTW.....you have a lovely garden.  I too have a tendency to pack them in.

    @Nollie thanks.  It sounds like your MW is doing well to have a bud.  My other stems that had no roots did have leaf growth so I've put more rooting powder on and stuck them back in on the off chance.

    @Mr. Vine Eye Hard to resist £6-7 roses!
    I have N. Bridal Crown, I smelled them recently and I find the smell strong but somehow unpleasant. I remember a discussion about Paperwhites (some people like the smell and some don't). I've never smelled Paperwhite but I think I am not a fan of the daffodil fragrance in general, no matter the variety.
    Here they are with 'Agnes Schilliger' (left), 'Starlet Melina' (centre), 'The Prince' (right).

    EDIT: I had to go outside and cut one for my husband to try. He said he liked it but understood which note in the fragrance I don't like and why.

    Good thing about not frequently checking on the forum is that you get lots of stuffs to read/see and enjoy. Side effect being you don't remember who said what :|
    Nice fencing and buds @Nollie magical snowy woodland pics @Perki
    Loved everyone's Wisterias in bloom
    @poppyfield64 even my Eustacia Vye was an accident, just shoved the snapped off bit into a pot and its slowly growing. Was amazed by the tiny size of stem, probably about 2mm thick and I never expected it to make it  :#
    @JessicaS good work on your border
    @ Mr. Vine Eye How did you resist buying the roses?? :p:smile:
    @edhelka daffodil smell can be strong for indoors, I was standing near my back garden where there are daffodils in bloom and the scent was amazing
    @marlorena True about the foliage colour of roses, they are like Acers/Maples of spring
