Thanks @Marlorena I was pretty pleased with the amount of roots. The only difference between this one and the others is that it was from a snapped stem which I popped in a glass of water indoors for a couple of weeks before potting it so there were already some roots sprouting. I may try that again this year and hopefully get more success.
@Bright star Ive got Open Arms new this year as well, got it bare root from cottage memories. Full of lush growth already. Its in a reasonably shady spot as well and dosent seem to care.
@Nollie Your wisteria is gorgeous! Mines just starting to bud, second year ive managed to get it to flower, last time was the first time after 5 years! Ive been obsessively covering the buds when its frosty.
Ive been busy working on my new borders, Just put a new arch in for Crown Princess Margarite & Clematis rouge Cardinal. The obelisk visible through it is for Lady of shallot. My yellows and reds rose border on the left is sprouting away well too. Lots in there as usual!
The roses are leafing away, these are my existing hulthemias and Brother Cadfael & Sweet Syrie popping up behind. Couple more shrub roses in there too, I like to pack them in!
Front garden also blooming nicely - earlier: Currently - the tete a tete have nearly finished and the first wave of Hyacinth, and tulips are just emerging.
@poppyfield64 Ive had that blistering in the past - its caused by specific rose aphids, dirty great big green things! Ive encouraged a big flock of dunnocks and sparrows etc that seem to be doing a good job picking the hulthemia clean currently, but Id get a nice dish of soap and water and wash the rotten things off if I were you. They do that to buds too and you end up with these weirdly tilted distorted buds.
Impressive roots on your Eustacia Vye @poppyfield64. I took my first rose cuttings last autumn, of Munstead Wood. They are very small as I struggled to get decent cutting material but one looks to be growing strongly and I had to cut a bud off it. I haven’t dared empty the pot to check the roots yet!
Great to see some more photos of your developing rose garden @JessicaS. My wisteria is four years old, I think, but was in flower when I bought it. Here’s a better picture, when the flowering is over the clematis on the trellis takes over and grows up through the wisteria. For some reason this is the only photo that refuses to load correctly:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Marlorena, missed your second post, thanks, hopefully they will shine out against the black, which still looks a bit severe with no plants there and you give me hope for Dd’A. I may paint the wood of the bed darker too, that bluish grey looks a bit startling.

I may be being impatient, but each time I check out my rose garden I am conscious of a lot of bare soil. I have 5 roses in quite a small area, the big one is awaiting a new obelisk, possibly arriving tomorrow. I have planted 5 x Geranium Roxanne in the bed, it's edged with Nepeta and Aquilegia, it's had Tête à Tête Daffodils and Tulips and there are now Alliums and Lily's coming up, Gladioli will follow and the Sedum is doing great, but I can still see soil....I know the roses will get bigger, but it all seems so sparse.... Any suggestions, or just patience?

We have had some much needed rain. These are from my more sheltered east garden, so foliage less tattered than those elsewhere:
