    @newbie77 @Marlorena

    Thank you. I think another rose it is then. Maybe something like Compassion or Penny Lane... not quite sure, so any advice on what rose to pair with Kiss Me Kate would be gratefully appreciated.

    I’ll try and see if I can source another bare root of the same variety, but I think that might be difficult at this time.

    I actually admire your style of gardening @Marlorena and I’m tending more towards a cottage garden style, though that might not be apparent.

    I’ve already planted some climbing roses on the fence, so I’m hoping it all comes together in the summer.

    @peteS, some of my roses had damaged leaves. I found snipping them off with scissors quicker. After snipping off leaves, whichever canes looked damaged, I pruned those.

    Like the look of Sweet Syrie.
    Hi from Kingswinford in the West Midlands
  • I do like Sweet Syrie.  Was after it last year but the nursery was sold out so ended up with Storm Cloud instead for a climber.

    I also picked up a standard Bonica today.  Never had a standard before so time will tell if I like it.  The pictures online look very impressive but then I suppose people aren't going to put photos of a crappy looking one up.  It will go in a pot for now and hoping the circular bed will be done either this year or next where it will then go in the middle of that.

    I'm a rose newbie, planted Kew Gardens last Autumn...

    Do I need to prune it at all or just let it grow in its first season?

    Did you plant it from a potted plant or bareroot?

    If it was bareroot then it will have already been pruned. Only if it had previous seasons growth on it when you planted in Autumn would you need to prune it now.
