^nice clear picture, is that from a phone camera?.... love looking at new growth... I've just got a new camera but don't think it's any better than the last one for close ups..

..oh well, one more week till Spring.. then it will soon be time for feeding..
.. I use whatever I can get my hands on but usually these.. it's the same product, different brand names..

  • @Marlorena yes just a phone camera.

I find keeping my hand steady enough to take the close up is the hardest thing.

Gosh what a lengthy thread already! My new roses (mainly in pots) have all come through a week of snow successfully and all have tight pink buds waiting to burst - no actual leaves yet. I'm so looking forward to the summer...

@Marlorena , I had veronica 'Marietta' for a couple of years and she is a gorgeous colour with thicker spikes than the veronicastrums. She did flop a bit though and, with me she was a bit of a martyr to mildew but then my soil does get terribly dry most summers. I decided that she really wasn't best suited to my conditions and replaced her with something else!
  • Evening rose folk.
Almost finished my pruning, just a couple of cuttings to transplant and prune and i'm done. So i'm now wondering how to follow this up with mulching & feeding.
1st dose rose feed to be in March so is it feed then mulch or vice versa?
What would be best for mulching?, garden compost, farmyard manure, leaf mould etc, or mixture?
Would manure + feed be too rich for new bare root roses?
    what do you experts do/suggest?
    Cheers
Just another day at the plant...

...I expect everyone does something different, but the correct way is to feed first, then apply a mulch after... on new roses is fine..  I use rotted manure or compost, old or new...  I never have enough, so some of them don't get any mulch...  they all get a feed though..

..thanks so much.. good to know.. I have a place for them with good soil, so we'll see how they go..

Am I the only one here, getting really impatient with new DA releases?
I want to order a rose or two from Style Roses but I am waiting for the new DAs first (mainly to decide if I want one rose or two roses from Style Roses). And I am worried the one I really want could sell out in the meantime.
Also, I am not really sure if DA roses deserve this high anticipation. I would bet they will be disappointing. No climber for Mr. Vine Eye, no purple, nothing interesting.

..yes I'm waiting too as I also want to order another from Style, but holding off... I've heard that besides Munstead Wood and Lady Emma Hamilton, Graham Thomas and Jude the Obscure are being 'retired' from commerce... all of these are currently 'out of stock' at DA... so I'm not sure they will be seen again there unless they come back online as potted..

I need positivity at the moment Edhelka! 😅

Good thing is my wife seems to have given me the go ahead to grow a climber at the front!
