My experience with Golden celebration seems to have been quite different to others on this thread. It’s been the healthiest and most floriferous Rose in my garden, hence why I always recommend it to others. It’s never had the dreaded blackspot but I don’t get much of it generally. This year though, that could all change as I dug it up and planted it in a different spot! The root system was enormous extending well under the lawn so had to be lopped back. Fingers crossed it settles well, I’m not expecting much from it this year though.

Golden Beauty performes brilliantly for me it is a really lovely rose, although not very scented.
I grow GJ as a climber in a very shady spot, she does well considering and the perfume is divine. I can see why she wouldn't make a good shrub rose though.
@newbie77 it was in full sun all day and our front garden has an open aspect, it was planted on the corner of our garden next to a public footpath so it had plenty of air circulation which I think helped very much. These were the 1st blooms last year. My friend has this in her garden trained as a climber as it’s a big rose and throws out long arching stems towards the end of the season. It looks stunning! This is the reason I’ve moved mine, I’m going to try train it as a climber on the back fence.

Fabulous photo of Golden Beauty @Yviestevie, I’m looking forward to seeing what mine does.
Re Golden Celebration, that’s the thing about roses, they do behave very differently depending on your climate, soil, planting position etc. My experience is not typical of the majority, being where I am, so I have to keep reminding myself of that @Bright star - fingers crossed yours settles in well in it’s new position. I tried winding mine around an obelisk last year, @Omori, but it didn’t produce any lateral breaks, just blooms on the end of the canes as before. Hope you have more success growing it that way.
@Omori, would you keep us posted how your GC does growing on the obelisk please. It does sound like it will do better trained as a climber. I’m determined to try get the best out of it as it is such a beautiful rose. I found my Gertrude Jekyll was the same but gave that up as a bad job as it was a bu**er to prune,I always needed a stiff drink after pruning her😂

I love my GC but really wish I could keep it healthy.

Gorgeous gift @Bijdezee, so much nicer than a bunch of ephemeral blooms. I love it’s lavender tones. Some info here if you haven’t already checked out HMF:
