..I wish my roses looked as good as yours Adrian..
@newbie77 ..do hope the situation improves very soon... life's difficult enough for us all right now without additional problems... your Azalea is beautiful, I do like that one..
@Mr. Vine Eye aah.. well done.. and @Bright star was right... a parasitic Wasp... I see they have been found in Rutland as well, which isn't too far from me.. I saw one last year on Kew Gardens.. they obviously like Austins..
Sorry for your tough times, @newbie77, our thoughts are with you 💕
Things are grinding on very slowly compared to past years, but some slivers of colour showing. Plus we had some rain! Dusty rain, but still glorious rain ☔️
Munstead Wood:
Cramoisi Superieur:
Noella Nabonnand, that first bud on the right is a bit um, jaunty..
Golden Beauty, not the best foliage:
Marie Pavie leading the pack:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
...oh good, some roses .. and all looking quite good.. disappointing about the G Beauty foliage.. mine is looking nice at the moment, so hope it stays that way.. .. I'm waiting to see that Cramoisi Superieur in particular.. lucky you.. and glad you got some rain... I'm promised 6 drops before month is out..
... a bit of info.. Germany has crowned its 2021 Rose of the Year...a German bred rose, perhaps no surprise there.. it beat DA's 'Desdemona' amongst others..
..it's an ADR winner... another to look out for should you be shopping from that region is 'Miss Mary', which looks the best of the other ADR winners this year, if only because of its strong fragrance.. 2020 winner I should say..
On the subject of growing mortimer sackler as a shrub, this is something RHS Harlow Carr do extensively to good effect, cutting it down to 30cm each February. Although Harlow Carr isn't the best for roses, I've nicked this and a fair few other ideas from them, images show it mixed on mass with brother cadfiel and a close up to show if as a shrub. I'm growing a trio of Ms in a mixed border, it was meant to be mixed with brother Cadfiel as well, but I miscalculated the space I had so sadly not together as planned!
Another thing I nicked from harlow Carr is growing a mass of Alan Titchmarsh roses, I know they are derided by some, but I have a poor sense of smell, but could smell these a mile off and I love the unique colour, here they are in the sensory garden at hc last summer, it was these that after decades of not caring for roses has made me buy over 50 bare roots since autum!

Thank you.. i shall repress my inner OCD in that case.. 😉 that rogue cane does look most healthy and would be a shame to cut it down..

@ Mr. Vine Eye, glad the mystery bug has been solved. With the climate warming up you never know what insects will appear in our gardens.
We had overnight rain here and a light shower this afternoon, the garden smells lovely and fresh.
@Rickyjones24 Beautiful plantings, thanks for sharing.
