Those pictures are wonderful, @Marlorena! I especially love the apricot tint on Cornelia. And after all, there's nothing stopping me from getting two different roses in complementing colours!
@Nollie WS still is a bit lax even after a few years of planting the health is good, I give it two rose feeds during the season and it keeps it's colour well even in heavy summer downpours.
Seeing all these photos of roses in bloom is heightening the sense of anticipation of what is to come! The official bloom season should be just less than a month away..!!
Here are a few updates from my balcony..
Lady of Shallot finally resisting the urge to climb..
Desdemona, Queen of Sweden, Lady Emma Hamilton (lady M is really growing into a giant this year..!)
Queen of Sweden - forever graceful and upright
I’m really happy with how they’ve maintained the symmetrical open goblet shapes this year.. Even my sickly Munstead Wood has started to bounce back.. after I’ve moved it to a windier spot (as a sort of stern final warning) - maybe I have indeed mollycoddled it too much previously by giving it the sunniest and most sheltered spot..
I’m contemplating if I should prune the rogue cane on the right of the picture.. I hate asymmetry and this rogue (though strong and healthy) cane is triggering my inner OCD.. I prefer symmetrical open goblet shape..
I was wondering why you didn’t mention Cornelia @Marlorena, then you did!
@celcius_kkw they all look so healthy and harmonious in their pots. I understand the temptation to cut your long MW cane, but I would let it flower then cut it down to size!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Desdemona in it's second year is really bushing out and healthy, with about half a dozen buds on so far. Graham Thomas at the back is looking good for buds higher up, it could be a record bloom year for me with that...BS looking a bit ominous though.
Hmm, that Mortimer Sackler looks rather lovely @Marlorena and @Yviestevie. Not one I've ever thought of before but you've just given me an idea! Will have to do some research/musing...
..Mr VE.. I see that black and yellow insect in your last picture..do you know what it is please? thanks.. I've spent time looking but couldn't find anything that matched..
@Yviestevie .. Your MS roses are beautiful on the arches... quite stunning that..
@celcius_kkw I agree with Nollie... I would leave it bloom... I sometimes find with this rose that after it's flowered, the cane goes unproductive, and needs to be cut out anyway.. see what happens.. ...your potted roses are a delight and I never tire of your far reaching views..
@peteS Desdemona is such a beauty.. with foliage to match..
Do you think 'Mortimer Sackler' would enjoy life in a spot which is bright but with minimal sun, growing up an obelisk. I can never quite understand DA's recommendations on planting when it comes to sun requirements.
