    @Bright star - yes it’s great, there are far more buds than last year. They flower straight off the previous years growth. I expected it would take another season for fruiting spurs to form so that’s a nice surprise.

    irs an odd shape, it came that way but now I’ve attempted to espalier it, need to do some notching and get more limbs lower down.

    @Fire - I think it’s worse because the pages now have fewer posts before they get full and make a new one. They used to be much longer. I’ve also noticed, looking back at the 2020 thread that the website stops showing the exact date of a post after a while, it just shows the month. So I was trying to find the date of my first bloom but couldn’t.

    Its a very traditional thread layout for the chat, just one post after another, in some ways if it was more like Facebook, so you could reply directly to a post with a comment that appeared right underneath and grouped with the original comment, that would make it easier to follow and less sprawling.

    I suppose a traditional forum isn’t really ideally set up for a continuous discussion this long, involving this many people. So it gets a bit clunky.

    Far from unusable though. But I definitely think it was better before they shortened the pages. It was nice scrolling down and seeing so many photos in one place.

    Regarding the threads... I'm not sure I like the idea of a monthly one.. this is more of an informative thread rather than 'chat'.. I think it might get terribly confusing..

    I propose a seasonal solution... a Spring/Summer from April 1st to Sept 30th.. then Autumn/Winter Oct 1st to March 30th, as we usually talk bare roots at that time..

    If everybody is happy with that, I'm prepared to start a fresh thread from May 1st this year, as we've already had April, and as Nollie's warmer climate is still a bit behind, I don't think he would mind too much.. he does start well before us, and our rose pictures will start rolling in more from next month..   @Nollie

    @Marlorena, yes, so far Weeks roses do well for me, though I have a fair number in the colour range of Wild Blue Yonder and though it may be a bit too similar to Stormy Weather. I have two new from them this year, Ebb Tide and Love Song, so I’ll see how they do.

    I like everything together but also find the thread a bit long and clunky too, if you could search within a post [edit:  search within a THREAD!] that would help, but we don’t have that facility. It is a valid point @Fire but monthly a bit too confusing if you are trying to look back at something. Marlorena’s Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter threads a good idea and we could start there and see how we get on. Happy to start it or for you to Marlorena.

    I find the green categories too broad, just one for ‘Plants’ and if I had my way would have a dedicated Roses one 😊

    @Nollie If you mean what I think you mean then you can search within a thread. If you have the thread open then next to the page numbers is a search icon, use that.

    @JessicaS
    ...pavers are nice Jessica, very cottagey look coming along there.. and of course I love the Thuja... 'Smaragd'>??

    ..yes, you are a naughty enabler..  but thanks all the same.. I'm very pleased with my plants today..

    @Nollie
    ..I don't think anyone's going to mind, we might as well let this go until the end of April, so if you'd like to start a new thread, on May 1st  Roses - Spring/Summer 2021 something like that,.. just to keep it orderly... then we can start another on Oct 1st... that way we'll know where we are without too many threads going on, and we can keep on rolling..
    Yes there should be a separate Roses forum I think..  not many people want to talk about Tagetes, Chives and Yuccas...

    ..thanks for the suggestion @Fire .. hope you're in agreement too on this..?  all good..

    I had another frost this morning.. bird bath frozen..

    Same here Marlorena, and another possible one tonight. The hybrid teas in the front garden are suffering big time, they look awful. I'm wondering if I should move them to pots in the back garden (more sheltered) and plant something hardier there if this is going to be an ongoing problem in years to come. Only problem is there are quite a few, around a dozen, so that's a lot of pots to find space for. I guess I can wait and see how well they recover.

    holy crow!

    I'm happy with whatever works for the group. This is an incredibly popular thread, well managed, kind and fascinating.
