My favourite crocosmia is Emily McKensie, compact, upright, doesn’t flop or spread very much and has large vibrant flowers:
A number of roses I dug out with the intention to get rid of have lived to see another day. Some OH has claimed for the office garden, two I saved for myself I am glad I did..
Lady of Shallot was miserable in my hot border and had really tiny leaves and very diseased ones at that. After being severely chopped down and potted up temporarily, I’m amazed to see her not only shoot back up vigorously with lots of new basal growth but with much larger leaves. It was clear she was languishing, but hadn’t really thought about poor location/conditions affecting leaf size!
I also thought I would give Burgundy Ice another chance. Again, chopped right down to about 5 inches on a do or die basis, potted. Now lost that unattractive lankiness and is much stronger and bushier. Both good illustrations of being cruel to be kind!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
You did good with those @Nollie ... I didn't keep B ice, but should probably have done the same... wasn't overly keen on the blooms though... Oh, love the Emily Mckenzie too..
@JessicaS I had Sanguisorba 'Pink Tanna' in my Macplants basket but removed it.. second thoughts.. so look forward to seeing how it does for you.. you'll be busy !..
ok, reading everyones list, I am not feeling that guilty now. I did want red echinaceas, i always wanted those when i saw them in any photos or B&Q.
I am feeling so silly about my clematis story. Last year, actually i remember exactly since that was my last day at office, i went at lunchtime to get sanitizer as everyone was saying i should carry one on way home in tube journey. There were huge queues at boots etc so i went to wilko and i dont know what i was thinking i panic bought 12 clematis, two tomato seed packets and sanitizer. then i had an embarrassed entry back to office with those in my hand and then trying to hide them under desk. Even more silly, i planted them all last year without any proper support and didnt put the tags/names. i thought they wont survive but looks like all of them are back. I now dont know which is which.
I will post photos and ask for help to identify. I might have tags somewhere in shed as I wasnt sure how to recycle them. They will always remind me of that last "normal office" day!
Sisyrhinchium 'Aunt May' x 2 Agapanthus 'Streamline' x 2 Aster 'Lutetia' x 1 Kniphofia caulescens x 2 Kniphofia rooperi x 1 Malva moschatus 'Alba' x 3 Malva 'Primley Blue' x 1
I really didn't need any of these but will find space for them. It all started because I used to grow the agapanthus before and then lost it and its really pretty. The rest just fell into the cart!
Falling into carts is a common mishap it seems, I’m a tad jealous, being 13 planned perennials short. Still, I can console myself with my over-abundance of roses, lots of things fell into the cart there. Must go on a pot-buying spree!
I loved the blooms of Burgundy Ice, just hated the habit @Marlorena. I suspect it will still end up being a lanky, but now it’s had a good talking to, maybe not so much.
Can you remind me about notching Marlorena? Above a nascent bud, I recall, but would now be a good time to do it?

nice list @iaincd ..I wanted the Malva moschata too but I had to cut my list down... I like those plants actually.. I used to have a pink one here..
@newbie77 ...made me laugh... glad your clematis are coming back though..
@Nollie ...yes notch anytime now till late summer, at least that's for here... ..just make a slit with sharp knife, right above a bud, going from left to right, across the front of the cane.. not deep, just through the outer layer.. you can choose any bud but maybe try first with one that's directly facing outwards, towards you...
@Marlorena never tried them before but I keep seeing them artistically waving in borders in magazines and thought id have a go
@newbie77 Ive done that in morrisons in the past, got overexcited at the selection and come home with a dozen then forget the tags Clematis seem to be so non fussed. I can help ID them as well if you put some pictures up as they flower.
Ive got some dwarf / slow conifers arriving as well as I wanted some winter green. Realised I should have gone for 3's probably but wanted to see what they look like first - Gardening Express, and theyve not let me down yet!
2 x Super Bushy Thuja occidentalis 'Smaragd' - 80-100cm
I've tried looking on Mac plants but I'm finding the website very awkward to navigate. Might just be the mobile site.
@newbie77 - they're tougher than they look! I had a couple that I thought must be dead, only for them to come back strongly this spring.
And that alionushka that I left in its little pot all summer, to be all but dead. Barely watered it. Yet that recovered and has fresh shoots from the base now.
I'll look forward to the photos - I bet they'll be easy to identify. I've seen all the ones they usually stock in Wilko/B&M etc. I've probably got half of them!

@Tack lovely clematis list, I've just received my Arabella from there after @Mr. Vine Eye recommended it, it looks lovely.
