I am enjoying watching the birds, but also intrigued. I have feeders at the front and the back of the house, I can see both from the dining room table because it's a long barn with barn doors at each end of the room. The back feeders have the more 'exciting' food as well as the fat balls but the front garden ones get the most birds, indeed they are fighting over them. I can't understand why some don't go and use the ones at the back of the house.....there are just two or three enjoying a very relaxed feast there.

@Dovefromabove, they don't even like each other. The endlessly squabble at the bird feeders and bully all the other birds . There are hundreds / thousands of them . They congregate at the dairy farm down the lane and the invade the sheds to get at the food and shit everywhere , contaminating the cows' feed. They normally depart in early March.
We have the same sort of thing here @D0rdogne_Damsel, the feeders at the back and front of the house have the same food so why does the flock of goldfinches only visit the back feeders while there is only the odd couple feeding at the front? Such a treat to see the sun today, we have just had coffee on the terrace, I actually had to pull the blind down a bit to stop the sun glaring in my face!
It's another grey and blustery day but just showers so far, rather than steady rain all day, and it is a bit brighter. It was so blowy last night I managed very little sleep and am feeling weary.
I have just been to fetch Rasta from being shorn and see the huge camellia on a sheltered corner in town is already going over with some tatty looking blooms. No sign of wild primroses in the hedgerows yet tho.
February is definitely a Foodie month! Today is Chandeleur/Candlemass so pancakes all round in France and Belgium. The 7th is Yorkshire pudding day. The 12th is Chinese New Year so a feast. The 14th is St Valentine's Day - chocs and romantic dinners and then the 16th is UK Pancake Tuesday. I shall be good tho and stick to my 5:2 diet for another 3 kilos.
We have starlings here but they tend to pick about in the gravel rather than invade the feeders. There is a lot of bird song today so I expect the locals are getting into territorial/mate hunting and nesting mode.

@chicky fruit and vegetable gardening, is there any other kind?😆 We went for a walk, as the numbers are finally getting better round here. Got a bit wet on the way back. Hope everyone is ok.
OH had his jab today, the Pfizer one, unlike mine. We took the opportunity of driving the long way home just for a change of scenery and also looked at the old massive MOD Foxhill site where he used to work. It's now just blocks and blocks of 3 storey town houses with not much greenery and tiny gardens, if at all. There was also a very big primary school/nursery with a very ugly modernistic cantilevered upper storey but we didn't see any shops being built. There are shops though in walking distance in the old Combe Down area. All three previous MOD sites have been developed for housing, two, very much the same and of course the nicest site, closer to town is altogether different but very much more expensive. The Council of course just rolled over when the developers bleated they couldn't after all afford to build the social housing element.
Thought we'd have to rush the cat back to the vets this afternoon as he's still poorly and hadn't peed for 24 hours but fortunately did so while I was waiting for the vet to call back so we just need to keep an eye on him. It's probably kidney trouble we think.
The plumber's been to fix the main loo, the cistern needed the insides replacing as the syphon was split, so at least it now flushes properly. Haven't a clue how much it will cost, didn't even ask him. Nice bloke with a most unusual first name - Phelim, which I hadn't heard of before.
It's all go here but I feel much more cheerful. It was really warm with sunshine this morning which was good.
