...and with a nice, new, shiny spade... carried there for him by The Royal Steward of The Shiny Shovel and Other Nice Shiny Things ... or is it Caudimordax?
I haven't listened to those stories since the kids were young - the Beeb did a brilliant cassette of Tales From The Perilous Realm. Listening to those and then progressing to the Beeb's version of the Hobbit (not so good) and LOTR (brilliant) - then reading the books (actual paper - yes paper - books).
Those stories are great for kids - and the Christmas book about the letters that Tolkien did for his kids about the North Polar Bear and Ilbereth was a Christmas 'must' here. We had an old version of the book where the letters were in envelopes that you could take out and read.
Memories..... I think I ripped the Beeb's cassettes to MP3 years back - so I may hunt around and listen again. Thank you Queenie for looking like a Hobbit and triggering some good memories.
RTBC today ... a real human being called Jordan on the other end of the phone line at Saga Insurance, being creative about shuffling a No Claims Bonus around and sorting out a muddle I'd got into by doing things ar*e about face. He's a knight in shining armour ... and I told him so ... and he got 10/10 in the customer satisfaction survey afterwards
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Forgotten beetroots from last year have made beautiful decorative 2ft high plants with wonderful bright red stems. Not sure if the leaves are still edible but I don't want to ed them anyway.
I saw beetroot used in a red border planting at Kalmthout arboretum along with red Bishop of Llandaff, ruby Swiss chard, red onions and lobelia Victoria and it was fab.
My RTBC - when we left our Belgian garden in 2016 I took last minute cuttings of some roses using terracotta pots and an "indelible" pen to mark the pots with the names. Needless to say "indelible" was a fib so it is only today that I found I finally have a Teasing Georgia in flower and looking fine and healthy. All 5 of the Queen of Sweden took but no Gertrude Jekyll or Generous Gardener or Sceptr'd Isle.

"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
@Obelixx. That usually only happens when you have nowhere to put them.
I would definitely recommend keeping a few beetroot for the flower border. The leaves are dark green in a red sort of way too. I'm sure the planning type gardeners could think of something amazing to go with them.
