Jesus was walking through a small village when he noticed a poor old man sitting by the side of the road.
Because the man looked 'familiar', Jesus asked him, "Did you, by any chance, ever have a son?"
"Yes," said the old man, "but he wasn't my biological son. He was born by a miracle, by the intervention of a magical being from the heavens."
"Very interesting," said Jesus. "Did this boy ever have to fight temptation?"
"Oh, yes, many times," answered the old man. "But he eventually won. Unfortunately, he heroically died at one point, but he came back to life shortly afterwards."
Jesus couldn't believe it. Could this actually be His father?
"One last question," He said. "Were you a carpenter?"
"Why yes," replied the old man. "Yes I was."
Jesus began weeping and said, "Father?"
The old man looked up with tears in his eyes and said, "Pinocchio?"
At my school, a Catholic boys’ grammar school run by the Marist fathers, it was the custom for the form captain to say a prayer before the lesson began. On one occasion he got a fit of the giggles which rapidly spread to all of us.
When we had composed ourselves I remembered Father McGuigan - such a nice man - saying ‘Now let us praise the good Lord for giving us a sense of humour.’
I'm not sure the conquistadors and various "missionaries" were so forgiving when they met those not so keen on christianity, especially when they were reluctant to convert.
I'd say " Christians" have been responsible for the murder of more people than any other religion.
The thirty year war is said to have claimed between 4 and 12 million and that was just Catholics and Protetants arguing about who were the better Christians.
And let's not forget the jolly japes between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland. How they got together and laughed about their differences eh?
We have them flowering all year round here @B3 - but I never take then for granted. They're always a delight Unfortunately- the slugs think so too
I felt a bit melancholy today [shouldn't really listen to Joni when I feel like that ] so I've now got Previn plays Gershwin on the doofer, which is a definite RTBC.
He plays all the right notes, in the right order too...
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I've seen my children and grandchildren over Xmas which was great. Last time we saw them was late August, my 13 year old grandson was nearly as tall as me. He's taller than me now!

Very true. You can say what you really think about Christianity without the risk of inciting a 'Holy War'!

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
