I nearly choked on my brew this morning when I read this

Brussels Sprouts! I’m useless at growing fruit and veg, so I was delighted to find some UK grown Brussels sprouts in the supermarket this week. One of my favourite vegetables. We are having them for lunch today with roast potatoes, Yorkshire puds and an experimental nut roast. Can’t wait!

If you start boiling them today, they should be soft in time for Dec 25th

Luckily I like them al dente, Hostafan! They are as delicious as I’d hoped. Too good to restrict to Christmas.

    RTBC?
Johnnie Walker's just played the album version of Stevie's # 'As'. Class.

I'm not sure three months is enough @Ergates - even for al dente... ;)

Sounds like some non Brussels fans here! I’ve always loved them, even as a child. Maybe they subliminally remind me of Christmas?

I loathe Brussels sprouts - have tried them in salads, stir-fries, steamed, poached, with cream and bacon bits etc etc and yuk! - but OH loves them so I planted 6 for him to grow for Xmas.  I then bought a tray of 15 broccoli plugs but found they were B sprouts.

    Quel horreur!

Nothing dauted I planted them to grow for feeding to the chooks who love brassicas - except when they sneaked into the brassica cage what did they not touch?  Bloody B sprouts.  Stripped my PSB, nibbled the broccoli and Savoys, scoffed the salads I had as a catch crop but not a mark or dent on the sprouts.

It seems the chooks agree with me then.

I read somewhere that there is a genetic difference between sprout lovers and haters, something to do with the ability to detect a certain bitter tasting compound in the vegetable. Evidently I can’t, but about 50% of the population can.
More sprouts for me then. Luckily OH doesn’t mind them, as I shall be dishing them up regularly till they go out of season.
So sorry to hear about your non broccoli, Obelixx!

A big fan of brussel sprouts here as well @Ergates. Not just for Christmas !
My RTBC is that l have made a start on potting up my tulip bulbs. There's something magical about burying those bulbs, and waiting for the colour in a few months time.

I have just planted my new hydrangea, tidied up the bed and replanted a shuttlecock fern and hellebore. Unfortunately I accidentally dug up some English bluebell bulbs so have hastily replanted those too.

    No Brussel sprouts for me.
