Footballer who broke the rules, had his hair cut and then was arrogant / stupid enough to post the photo online is fined £200.
He  has a salary of £4.16 million a year. He must feel suitably "punished" I'm sure.

"According to data on Capology and Spotrac, two online sports team and player contract websites, Brazilian striker Joelinton takes home an annual salary of £4.16 million (Dh15. 2m), or the equivalent of £80,000 a week.13 Jan 2020"

Surely fines should be relative to one's ability to pay?

Surely fines should be set slightly over one's ability to pay ?  Otherwise it has little impact on the miscreant whether it be £50 ( non footballer ) or £4 million (footballer, banker or WHY )
Unlikely tho that a court would hand down a fine for £4 million simply to make a point.
Apart from that, where exactly do these "fines" end up ( assuming at least some of them are actually paid ) - general govt. or divided between police, NHS, local councils ?
I'd suggest a fine should equate to multiples of an hour / day / month / year's income depending upon severity.

Maybe they should not be financial punishments.
The miscreant should be given a completely boring  but useful task with absolutely no kudos attached to it.
A footballer could be given the task of knitting 1000 pairs of pink booties. They would have to go to a designated place to do the task so that they couldn't get a wag to do it for them.

They are, apparently, going to rush thru legislation to allow a government minister to take maternity leave because the Attorney General needs to take some and currently either has to resign her post of get special permission from the PM.

If that can be rushed thru I'm sure it would be possible to rush thru a law saying all fines for all misdemeanors be charged as a percentage of income from all sources including overseas assets so that people like Philip Green, footballers earning squillions and the likes of Trump would not get away with being fined risible sums.   A commensurate number of hours of community service should be easy enough to include and should involve working in community food banks and similar "reality" activities.

No.  BBC Daily Politics today.  No maternity leave for government ministers so it needs fixing.  https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-55933388

maybe they could rush through laws compelling every person / company who earns money in this country to pay a  fair level of tax here.
No more tax dodging " Non Doms" and google / amazon etc
Maybe the number of " tax exiles" who are Tory donors is stopping them? Surely not?

I've been having pest problems with my indoor plants for a while now. I set up some yellow sticky traps to try and sort it out and managed to catch one of the worst offenders today. His mum wasn't too impressed about having to peel it off him though. :#

I had to peel one of those off a cat @wild edges.   Not too impressed with them but the only pests I get are aphids on my hibiscus chinensis so I have given in and use a spray now.  We have ladybirds hibernating in the window frames so I have to take the plants to the shower to blast off as many as I can and then spray the plants to get any that escape.
