I am unsure because I don’t have your local knowledge but a four hour walk, even in winter, does not seem so unusual and I don’t think it is possible to infer when was their expected return time. I just thought it was quite a leap in thinking to believe they might have fallen into the sea and, had they done so, to have survived in the water for more than five minutes.

Idiots!!! Charge them for the cost of the search as well as the gine for breaking Lockdown!!! 😔

Sadly not a one off.  A mountain rescue volunteer has suffered life changing injuries after falling nearly 500 feet in Cumbria when going to the assistance of 2 idiots from the Midlands who had problems.  I hope they live with the guilt for the rest of their lives, and to ensure they do I would have photographs of the rescuer sent to their homes on a regular basis.  a £200 fine is simply not enough.

@BenCotto ... if you read down that report you’ll see that the rescue team described the conditions on the beach that afternoon as some of the worst they had ever faced ... high tides and winds that were bringing trees down inland along with the instability of that stretch of coastlineĀ https://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2021-01-28/coastguard-issue-warning-over-happisburgh-cliff-fallĀ

People with local knowledge just wouldn’t have walked on that beach that afternoon. Ā Once the car reg was checked at it was realised they were visitors alarm bells would’ve been ringing loudly.Ā

The decision to drive to Norfolk was ridiculous and a fine is appropriate. But equally ridiculous was the decision to deploy all those coastguard resources. Such poor decision making needs to be investigated.

Ā But, I was just testing my eyesight your Honour so I had to drive to do that. Anyone know the way to Barnard Castle?

I keep seeing an advert for a toilet with some sort of hose attachment in the middle of the bowl. Looks like some rather unpleasant toilet cleaning might be involvedšŸ˜•
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • @B3 A douche toilet? I always fancied one of the really complicated toilets that they have in Japan and Korea with heated seat and hot or cold sprays in various directions operated by a remote control. But they cost thousands of pounds. They'd have to be self cleaning though!

Personal grump about weather here.Ā  We've had far too much for the last few months now and I would really appreciate a few dry, sunny days without gales.Ā  Please.

As for idiots whose ill thought schemes to take fresh air put other lives at risk and heap huge costs on both charity and public funded rescue organisations they should be fined hugely, publicly named and shamed and made to do appropriate community service for the rest of their lives because what they've done is inexcusable.

Sign of the times when everyone is on lockdown but police still have to advise that travel should be restricted to essential journeys only because of the snow :|
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I'm having a personal grump today too. We are stressed because somebody at Plusnet (our broadband provider) plugged the plug on OH's emails in late November and now mine have stopped appearing since last Thursday. Despite numerous phone calls and queries via their website, we are getting absolutely nowhere. It means that emails from our banks, SM, GP, and sales outlets are not getting through. I tried to edit some of my existing accounts but guess what, most of them want to send a link to our email account for verification, including the Ombudsman. We just don't know what to do next, other than change suppliers, which means having to have new email addresses which we really didn't want to have to do.

Do you know how you're picking up your mails? IE are you using a client like MS Mail to pick up the mail and it's that that's failing? If so, check if Plusnet has a web browser version of their mail and try to access the mail. If you use Plusnet just as the broadband provider then the same applies to whatever mail provider you use. EG for me, I use BT for broadband, my mail is Yahoo and other providers and I use Evolution on Linux to get the mail. If Evolution fails to get the Yahoo mail, I can go to the Yahoo 'mail' web page and send/receive mail from there as a stop gap. If I used BT's mail, I could do the sam by going to BT's mail login.
