Who needs heuchera when you can have coleus . New ones every year. Never the same

  • Re cyclamen:  the non-hardy sort just might survive outside if you live in a mild area, and - most importantly - you can keep them from getting soaked.  They hate cold wet weather.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

I had a cyclamen many years ago. The corm was eventually the size of a dinner plate. I kept it inside - didn't know any better. When it looked tatty, I threw it outside on its side to die off. When it sprouted again, I took it inside. I can't remember why it died in the end, but assume damp was involved.

  • Much prefer the natural coloured heathers I purchased today from a plant nursery...no garish colours in sight!

Thank god for this thread. I was just doing a double take at these heathers yesterday and didn't have a clue what was going on.
I love it.  I think if I saw some in the local GC I would need to purchase them for this specific pattern.  Being an art teacher, I would arrange them in a circle for the color wheel.. but regardless, I can support rainbow art.

The original image that started this thread really troubled me because it was not arranged chromatically.  I would have been there moving flats of brightly rainbow hued heather to follow the proper color wavelength 🌈.

I'm finding the trend for plastic plants in the garden rather sad. There's always been the odd plastic box ball, or these daft hanging ones, not to mention full on 'flowers' stuck into borders,  but yesterday I saw an arrangement that took my breath away.
A row of 3 plastic fan palms with 2 plastic topiary swirls - fake yew or something, in between. The worst bit about it was, the owners had them along the side of their garage, and they would really never see them because of the site, but the poor folk in the house opposite had them in full view of the front windows!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
