@amancalledgeorge. I had one of those, it was the white one with the blue behind. It grew about four foot horizontally along a sheltered flower bed. There were gas and water pipes running underneath so I suppose that's what kept the temperature up too. I think it was a very harsh winter that killed it. There was probably damp involved but I don't remember.
I hate those too. I was given some and for one I managed to remove them, so that one can grow. Another they are partially gone and I hope that with the passage of time the remains may gradually be shed, but the last one has so much glue that the growing point is completely covered and the poor thing has no chance. Vile!

Personally I dislike the dyed orchids the most. Such beautiful plants, with all their natural beauty hidden by a gallon of food coloring. Fortunately it does fade out, but I wonder how many people bought a blue orchid and can't figure out why it turned white after 6 months...
